Setup: "Au sortir de l'hiver" (Coming Out of Winter)
It is sowing time. After a rather harsh winter, everyone is busy in the fields and the gardens.
- Place the Bâtiment Jardins (Gardens building) tile in play for free, construction side up, on an empty Construction location of the Fortin.
- The Augurs announce the end of the bad weather.
- Remove from the game the following 12 Évènement cards:
- Orage foudroyant (Lightning storm)
- Pluie incessante (Incessant rain)
- Violentes tempêtes (Violent storms)
- Inondation (Flood)
- Coulées de boue (Mudslides)
- Vent glacial (Icy wind)
- Pluies torrentielles (Torrential rain)
- Forte grêle (Heavy hail)
- Crues abondantes (Abundant floods)
- Froid engourdissant (Numbing cold)
- Gel à pierre fendre (Stone-splitting frost)
- Infiltrations (Seepage)
- Shuffle the remaining Évènement cards.
Chronicle Card 1: "La rivière s'assèche" (The River Dries Up)
The Augurs are worried. As if to answer their concerns, the flow of the river is far lower than it should be with the snowmelt. The fields, poorly irrigated, are suffering...
Immediate Action
Each Patroller may go up and down hill and dale to reassure and help.
- Each Patroller may spend 1 [bread icon] or 1 [heart icon] to move into the Region of their choice.
- For each Patroller who does not perform this action: lose 1 [yellow banner icon].
It is abnormal that the flow of the river is so low.
Temporary Action
Until this card is covered by the next Chronicle card, or until the action has been accomplished by one of the Patrollers:
- One Patroller may go up the riverbed. [blue compass icon]
Success
You mark out the best possible route. Add 1 [check mark icon] to the Chronicle.
Chronicle Card 2: "La ruine" (The Ruin)
The river disappears under the ruins of a Fortress. The walls are marked with deep notches. Claws?
-
If the check mark ✔ is present: designate a non-secured Region of your choice.
-
Otherwise: locate. [dark hexagon icon with refresh arrow] If the Region is secured, re-roll.
-
Discard all Péripétie cards of the designated Region and place the Forteresse du Dragon (Dragon Fortress) tile in its place. The Region is now perilous and can no longer be secured.
Meanwhile, as the Augurs predicted, events accelerate.
- Draw a new Évènement card and apply its effects.
- If the check mark ✔ is present: each Patroller may move into the Region where the Dragon Fortress tile is located.
Chronicle Card 3: "Le monstre" (The Monster)
While exploring the ruin, you discover the origin of the problem: a giant crab blocks and dries up the river. Attacking it head-on without looking for its weak points would be suicidal.
Temporary Action
Until this card is covered by the next Chronicle card:
- A Patroller of your choice may gather old legends, consult the archives, or secretly study the monster. [purple book icon with refresh arrow]
Success
-
The Patroller learns a little more about this fantastic adversary. Add 1 [check mark icon] to the Chronicle.
-
Draw a new Évènement card and apply its effects.
The monster grows before your eyes...
Chronicle Card 4: "Libérer la source" (Freeing the Source)
Armed with your knowledge and your determination, you are ready to face the colossal crustacean! You will have to give it everything.
Immediate Action
- Each Patroller must face the creature. [dark hexagon icon with helmet and refresh arrow]
- 3 successes required.
- Spend 2 [check mark icon] / 2 [food icon] / [check mark icon] + [food icon] to gain one additional success.
- Spend 3 [heart icon] to gain one additional success.
- If 2 Patrollers or more succeed their test: Victory.
- Otherwise: Defeat.
Chronicle Card 5: "Victoire" (Victory)
The battle was epic and you emerged victorious. You free the body of the monster and release the flow of the river. Irrigated once more, the fields will yield enough this year to get through the winter. No doubt your deeds will be sung by the fireside. Oltréé!
Chronicle Card 6: "Défaite" (Defeat)
One after another, you fall, torn apart by the giant pincers. The crab keeps growing in the darkness while the region turns to desert. It eventually leaves the Ruin to sow terror in the Satrapy, completing its work of desolation.
Fin (End).
