How does a numbox banner work, and what if you have no card with the matching symbol?

A banner shows a symbol and a number. If an involved character uses an item (spending a durability pip in the Item step) or a Quest item showing that symbol, you may add its number to the numbox number and take that card. Without a matching item, take the plain numbox number.
