Using the Pack
You may use HMS Victory without these cards, or add the crew cards and/or one of the two captains. If you add a captain, all the abilities indicated on the Captain card may be used during the battle.
If you add abilities to this ship, we recommend that you also allow the opposing player to add a similar number of abilities to their ships, to preserve the balance of the game. You can also balance the game using our points-value system (visit www.aresgames.eu/downloads to download it).
Standard and Advanced Rules
If a special ability can only be used with the Standard rules, it is marked with two icons. If it can only be used with the Advanced rules, it is marked with three icons.
Abilities Usable Once or Twice
If an ability can only be used once per game, discard the card when it is used.
If an ability can be used twice per game, turn the card over when it is used for the first time, as a reminder that it has been used once. Discard the card when it is used for the second time.
Captain Wounded
After a ship has half of the boxes on its crew loss track filled, the ship's captain may be wounded.
In any turn in which at least one crew loss is taken, draw four damage tokens at the end of the Combat phase to determine what happens to the ship's captain:
- If three of the tokens show a crew loss symbol, the captain is wounded.
- If all four tokens show a crew loss symbol, the captain is killed.
- In any other case, there is no effect.
Shuffle the tokens back in with the unused ones, without assigning any damage to the ship.
Effects of a Wounded Captain
If the captain is wounded, the abilities marked with the captain icon are affected:
- If the captain has one or more abilities that can be used twice per game, and none of them has ever been used, consider all of them to have been used once. Any ability used once is discarded.
- If the captain has no abilities that can be used twice, the player must discard one of his unused abilities.
A wounded captain who is wounded again is considered dead.
If the captain is dead, any ability marked with the captain icon is discarded immediately.
Transcription notes: the sheet marks abilities with icons (two or three star-like symbols for the Standard and Advanced rules; a cocked-hat symbol for captain-related abilities; a crew-loss symbol on the damage tokens). These are described in words above. The sheet's publisher, designer, artwork and copyright credits are omitted.
