Set Up

SPORKS Out can be seamlessly added to the Rival Restaurants Base Game. It is compatible with Back For Seconds Expansion but does not require it. Add the new chef cards, restaurant boards, and recipes to the base game. Place the Snackle Box next to the board.

What's New in SPORKS Out?

The SPORKS Out expansion adds 2 new mechanisms to Rival Restaurants.

1. SPORKS

If you are playing a new chef, take your (1) chef standee, (2) chef card as well as your (3) SPORK(s) and (4) SPORK card.

Each of the new chefs comes equipped with a physical 3D SPORK that fully integrates with their chef powers. Each new chef card only gives a brief summary of how their power works. To understand and use their power, you must read the SPORK card which fully explains how the corresponding chef power works.

The new chefs of SPORKS Out require more strategy and careful planning than some of the earlier chefs and are recommended for players who are familiar with Rival Restaurants. But if you can utilize their strengths, they can be absolutely devastating.

  • One thing to note is that the SPORKS are so powerful, that Clam-Voyance cannot stop the effect of any SPORK.

2. Action Auction

There is a new phase called Action Auction. During this phase, chefs will be bidding for action cards in the Snackle Box with leftover money from the previous day. This is designed to encourage action card usage, player interaction and saving money to get powerful actions at the start of next turn.

  • The Action Auction occurs before MONEY and MOVE. You will not have your daily income before going to Action Auction thus favoring players who save their money.
  • Additionally, this phase does not happen on Day 1 as players will not have any money to bid.
  • The new phases in the day are (1) Action Auction, (2) MONEY and MOVE, (3) BUY and BARTER, (4) COOK and COUNTER.
  • Action Cards cannot be used during Action Auction.

Action Auction

Initial Action Auction Phase

During the Initial Action Auction Phase, do the following:

  1. Draw 1 Action Card and place it face-up on the Snackle Box.
  2. All players secretly bid for the contents of the Snackle Box by placing money in hand.
  3. When everyone is ready, reveal the bids. The highest bid wins. Pay the money to the bank and take the contents of the Snackle Box. Those who are outbid, keep their money. Proceed to MONEY and MOVE.
  4. In the event of a tie, no one gets it and all players keep their money. Keep the Action Card in the Snackle Box and proceed to MONEY and MOVE.

Subsequent Action Auction Phases

During Subsequent Action Auction Phases, do the following:

  1. If the Snackle Box is empty (purchased in the previous round), repeat the above steps.
  2. However, if there already is an Action Card in the Snackle Box (because it was not purchased in the previous round), do the following: a. Draw a second Action Card and place it face down on the remaining slot in the Snackle Box. b. All players bid secretly for the entirety of the Snackle Box by placing money in hand. c. When everyone is ready, reveal the bids. The highest bid wins. Pay the money to the bank and take the entirety of the Snackle Box. Those who are outbid, keep their money. Proceed to MONEY and MOVE. d. If there is a tie again, no one gets it. Keep the second face down action card in the Snackle Box along with the original face-up card. In future Action Auction Phases, you will not add to the Snackle Box until it is purchased. There will always be at most, 1 face up action card (the first one) and 1 face down action card (second one).

New Order of Events

The printed diagram shows the day's steps as: 1. Event (if playing with Back for Seconds Expansion); 2. Action Cards (starting on Day 2); 3. 1-Money & Move; 4. 2-Buy & Barter; 5. 3-Cook & Counter.

Chef Powers & Additional Details

Pam Knee You: The Thaigress

Thai and Mighty: Whenever Pam visits all 4 Corner Markets and completes her boxing ring, she unlocks the Boxing Gloves which knock out opponents or rob them blind.

  • Boxing Gloves work at all locations. Can't be blocked or stolen.
  • Boxing Gloves are used like action cards but do not count towards the 1 action card per day limit.
  • Both gloves can be used on the same day, but not on the same chef.

Papa Tio: El Chefe

Cuban Meal Crisis: Papa Tio can Missile Craft in order to build a Nuclear Missile. Once completed, he can use the Lunch Button to deploy his weapon of mass ingredient destruction.

  • Until the missile is launched, Papa Tio cannot Missile Craft again. Papa Tio can only begin rebuilding the missile once the missile is launched.

Sloppy Joe: The Greasy Shamburglar

Dumpster Diver: Joe can send Scraps the Raccoon to store discarded ingredients in Joe's Dumpster, which can be acquired by taking garbage.

  • During COOK and COUNTER, anytime a shelf is empty, Joe must return all discarded ingredients from that market so that the shelf can be refilled.
  • Ingredients in Joe's Dumpster do not belong to Joe. They cannot be traded or affected by chef powers or action cards.

Sultan Pepper Shakrh: The Spiceroy

Shake Things Up: Sultan can place either the Salt or Pepper Shaker on any counter ingredient. Whoever buys that ingredient is in for a surprise. But if no one buys it, you just might be playing into the Sultan's hands.

Wahine Poi Poi Kanakakuke: The Umami Mommy

Lady of the Luau: Each day, Wahine can throw a Luau that's guaranteed to be hit or miss. She'll either keep a free required ingredient for her recipe... or everyone else that goes to her luau gets $300.

  • Wahine does not have to attend the Luau for the Potluck to occur. If she does attend, do not draw a shelf ingredient for her.
  • When Potlucking, if a drawn ingredient is listed on her recipe, keep it, regardless of whether she already has it or not.

Restaurant Powers & Additional Details

Because some restaurants are so saucy that a little clarity makes things taste better.

Crave of Wonders

  • Rising Dough Power: Trade refers to any agreement between 2 or more chefs during BUY and BARTER where resources are exchanged. Both players must exchange resources.
  • Hot Sauce Power: The drawn facedown ingredients cannot be looked at until they are traded to another player. The recipient then places the ingredient(s) face up and can use it like any other ingredient(s).

Thai-Tanic

  • Each power upgrades the previous power. They do not stack together. Therefore when you reach Big Cheese, you DO NOT use the Rising Dough and Hot Sauce powers.

The Greasy Bucket

  • Rising Dough Power: The garbage that replaced an ingredient is discarded and does not reduce the popularity point earned.
