Components
- 6 super-power tokens
- 24 super-power cards (6 different super-powers, 4 copies of each)
- This rules booklet
- The base Qwirkle game (not included)
Setup
To play Qwirkle Super-Pouvoirs you need the base Qwirkle game. Form 6 piles of cards by stacking the cards that share the same super-power.
Shuffle the super-power tokens face down, then reveal 3 of them. Each player places in front of them 3 super-power cards that match the 3 revealed tokens. These are the cards each player may use during the game. Return the other cards to the box.
In the example below, the players drew these 3 tokens and will therefore use the super-power cards bearing the same symbol, namely Exchange some of your tiles, Draw 3 tiles and Ask for 1 specific tile.
The three tokens are marked with a pair of red and blue arrows (exchange some of your tiles), a red "+3" (draw 3 tiles) and a red question mark (ask for 1 specific tile).
Then continue setup as for a normal game: place all the tiles in the bag. Each player draws 6 tiles from the bag to form their hand. Choose one player to record the scores on a sheet of paper.
First Player
Each player looks at their hand and announces their largest number of tiles that share the same color or the same shape, not counting duplicates.
The player with the highest combination begins and places those tiles in the center of the table. In case of a tie, the oldest of the tied players begins. Play proceeds clockwise.
Playing a Turn
Playing Tiles
- Choose whether you want to play tiles this turn. If so, think about a strategic way to place them. Otherwise, go directly to the section Exchanging Tiles below. If needed, consult the Qwirkle rules reminder at the end of this booklet.
- You may use one super-power card on your turn. If you do, carry out the action described on the card, then remove it from the game. Each super-power card may be used only once per player during the game.
- Play your tiles.
- Calculate your score.
- Draw tiles until you have 6 tiles in your hand again. Your turn ends.
Exchanging Tiles
Instead of playing your tiles, you may choose to exchange some or all of them for the same number of tiles from the bag, then pass your turn.
Super-Power Cards
Each super-power card below is listed under its name, translated from the French card title, followed by the effect printed on the card.
Ask for 1 Specific Tile
Ask each player, one after another in turn order, whether they have a certain type of tile (for example, a "green circle"). If a player answers "yes", they must give you that tile and immediately draw one tile. As soon as this happens, you ask nothing more of the other players. If no one has the requested tile, draw a tile from the bag.
Play Again
Play one turn, draw until you have a hand of 6 tiles again, then play a second turn. You may not use a super-power card on your second turn.
Draw 3 Tiles
Draw 3 additional tiles. As long as you have 6 or more tiles in hand, do not draw more tiles at the end of your turn.
Take 1 Tile
Take 1 tile from among those already played on the table and add it to your hand. You may not take a tile from a Qwirkle. You also may not take a tile whose removal would disconnect other tiles on the table from the lines they belong to.
Play 3 Tiles in a Row
Play 3 tiles, one after another, without necessarily placing them on the same line, and note the score obtained for each tile. Do not draw tiles until your turn is over and you have noted the score of these 3 tiles.
Exchange Some of Your Tiles
Put back into the bag as many tiles from your hand as you wish. Draw until you have 6 tiles in your hand again, then play your turn as usual.
Qwirkle Rules Reminder
This reminder is printed on the back of the booklet. For the complete rules, see the base Qwirkle game.
- Draw 6 tiles each. The player who can play the most tiles (sharing one shape or color, not counting duplicates) begins and must play them on their first turn.
- The tiles you play on the table must all share a common attribute (color or shape) and be placed on a single line. A line can never contain duplicates.
- You score 1 point per tile in each line you create or complete.
- You score 6 extra points each time you complete a line of 6 tiles, called a Qwirkle (so a Qwirkle scores at least 12 points: 1 per tile plus 6 bonus points).
- Instead of playing tiles on the table, you may exchange tiles from your hand (or all of your tiles) for tiles from the bag.
- When there are no more tiles in the bag, continue until one player empties their hand. That player gains 6 points and the game ends.
- The player with the most points wins the game.
