Game Setup
The festival has arrived, and it's just outside of town! When placing the Town Board in the center of the table, place the 50/100 Point Tokens near the score track. Follow the usual setup instructions in Harvest and add these steps:
- Place the Fall Festival Board to the right of the Town Board so that it lines up next to the Workshop.
- Shuffle the Festival Card Deck and place it, face up, in the topmost Fall Festival Board space.
- Deal 2 Festival Cards face up to the remaining Fall Festival Board spaces.
- Place the Harvest Reminder Token below the Harvest Action in the FIELDS on the Town Board.
- Give each player a Basket.
- Shuffle the #11 Sunrise Tile into the Sunrise Tile stack prior to dealing them out during Player Setup.
Solo & 2-Player Games
If you are playing with 2 players or Solo, also do the following:
- Shuffle the 2 Fall Festival Gairy Tiles into the Gairy Tile Stack, so there are 10 Gairy Tiles total.
- Give Gairy 1 Basket if you are playing with 2 players or 2 Baskets if you are playing Solo.
Action Phase
Fall Festival adds a new location in town you can visit. Don't forget your Basket! Your Basket is a special Player Piece that lets you take actions on the Fall Festival Board.
On your turn you may do one of the following:
- Place 1 of your Player Pieces on an open Action Space on the Town Board.
- Place your Basket Token on an open Action Space on the Fall Festival Board.
You can only spend Baskets to take an action on the Fall Festival Board.
Visiting the Fall Festival
The Fall Festival Board adds new Action Spaces that will help you reap even more during your Harvest, and purchase those nifty Festival Cards. The actions you can take at the FALL FESTIVAL are:
- Gain 2 Coins and Purchase one Festival Card.
- Perform a Harvest Action.
- Purchase one Festival Card or Gain 1 Coin. Like the bottom Action Spaces of the GENERAL STORE and TRADING POST, this space can be visited by any number of Baskets.
Festival Cards
The Festival has something for everyone to enjoy (more than one somethings if you have a sweet tooth like Mayor Gairy). There are two ways to acquire Festival Cards:
- Take an action with the Fall Festival icon.
- Take the Harvest Action.
Festival Action
Several Action Spaces on the Fall Festival Board will give you the chance to purchase a Festival Card. Whenever you take the Festival Action you may:
- Spend coins equal to the cost of that card — the cost listed on the right side of the WORKSHOP now tells you the cost for Buildings on the left and Festival Cards on the right.
- Place the purchased Festival Card next to your Farm Board.
Harvest Action
Any time you take the Harvest Action, you may purchase one Festival Card by paying the corresponding cost of that card. You may do this before or after gaining coins from your Harvest.
You may do this any time you perform a Harvest Action, regardless of how you were able to take that action.
After your turn is complete, if there are any open spaces in the Festival Card Market, shift all the cards down so that the newest card is visible in the 3-cost space.
Gairy's Action Phase
If you're playing 2-Player or Solo, on Gairy's turn, reveal 1 (2-Player) or 2 (Solo) Gairy Tiles to have Gairy visit the board section listed on the tile.
- If Gairy is visiting the Town Board, place a Player Piece as normal.
- If Gairy is visiting the Fall Festival Board, place one of his Baskets.
Any time Gairy visits the FALL FESTIVAL, discard the lowest cost Festival Card from the display, shifting all other Festival Cards down as normal.
If Gairy is unable to place either a Player Piece or a Basket as instructed by the tile drawn (because he has run out of either option), draw a replacement tile.
Pies & Novelties
There are two types of Festival Cards — Pies and Novelties. Here's what they do:
Pies give you end game Points. The wider the variety of Pies you collect, the more Points you will earn. There are 5 unique Pies in the deck with varying quantities of each.
The dots underneath the Pie name represent how many of that Pie are in the deck. Check out End Game Scoring to see how the set scores.
Since there is only 1 Pumpkin Pie in the deck, only 1 set of 5 Pies can be made — so don't let that Pumpkin Pie linger!
Novelties grant you bonuses when you visit specific actions around town. On your turn you may discard Novelties to use their effects if you have taken the named action on the card.
When Planting, After Harvest
These can be used when taking a Field Action. The Field Action can be from any source, not just from visiting the FIELDS.
- Overflowing Cornucopia: When Planting — Gain any [icon shown on the card]. You may plant it — paying its normal cost.
- Harvest Garland: After Harvest — benefit shown by icons on the card face (two tool icons and a 4 icon). Icon meanings are as explained in the base Harvest rulebook.
Trading Post, General Store, Workshop, Placing Basket
When visiting the corresponding board location, discard a matching Novelty Card to gain the indicated benefit. You may gain the listed benefit in any order while taking actions at the location.
- Harvest Hay Ride (Trading Post): benefit shown by icons on the card face (two brown icons, and a tool icon with a 6). Icon meanings are as explained in the base Harvest rulebook.
- Funnel Cake (General Store): benefit shown by icons on the card face (blueberry and wheat icons). Icon meanings are as explained in the base Harvest rulebook.
- Grandpaw's Soil Mix (Workshop): Spend [manure icon] as [3 icon] each. Icon meanings are as explained in the base Harvest rulebook.
- Hand-Woven Basket (Placing Basket): Retrieve and place your [Basket icon] again.
Novelties cannot be used on the turn they are purchased.
Sunset Phase
During each Sunset Phase, discard the Festival Card from the 1-cost space and shift the remaining cards down, decreasing their cost and placing a new card in the 3-cost space.
If the deck runs out, reshuffle the discarded Festival Cards (both spent Novelties and cards discarded between rounds) and set them face up in the 3-cost space.
Baskets
Retrieve and redistribute a Basket to each player when you collect your Player Pieces.
Game End
In addition to End Game Scoring described in Harvest, Festival Cards are also scored:
Pies
- Pies are scored in sets of unique pies grouped together.
- Once you have made your sets, score them based on the following chart.
| Unique Pies in Set | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Points | 2 | 5 | 8 | 12 | 16 |
Example: First Set: 8 Points. Second Set: 2 Points. Francie earns 8 Points for her first set of Pies and 2 Points for her second set.
Unused Novelties
- Score 1 Point for each Novelty still in your supply.
Fall Festival gives you new ways to score big! Grab a Point Tracker Ribbon as you wrap the Score Track to more easily count your Points.
Characters
Francie the Field Springer
Sociable Sweet Tooth
Any time you purchase a Festival Card, do not pay the Coin cost required for purchasing that card.
Finn & Maisie the Field Mice
Dynamic Directors
Finn & Maisie get 2 powerful and unique Town Board actions, rather than the typical 3. Finn & Maisie may be played in any order.
- Finn: Does not pay coin costs when visiting a space.
- Maisie: Gains +1 Action on spaces with Actions and ignores the ≠ at the Workshop.
These benefits are gained the turn they are placed. Reactivating a previously placed mouse on a later turn will not gain you these benefits (e.g. when building "Printing Press").
