Setup
Board Setup
The following is the setup for 3 to 4 players. See "2 Players and Solo Mode" for setup changes when playing with 2 players or for the solo mode.
- Place the Main board and Wasteland board in the center of the table.
- Place the 3 types of meat tokens and 6 types of Regular Dinosaur tokens next to the Main board. This area is called the supply.
- Separate the Milestone tiles by upper and lower types. Place one random upper tile face-up on each of the 4 upper tile spaces in the center of the Main board. Likewise, place one random lower tile face-up on each of the 4 lower tile spaces. Return the remaining Milestone tiles to the box.
- From the supply, take one of each Regular Dinosaur token (Pachycephalosaurus, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Pteranodon, and Elasmosaurus) and line them up next to the Main board. These are called Bonus Dinosaur tokens. Then take 1 Small meat token, 1 Medium meat token, and 1 Large meat token from the supply and place them next to the Bonus Dinosaur tokens.
- Put all 16 beige Dinosaur chips into the cloth bag and mix them well.
- Draw 2 chips from the cloth bag and place them face-up on the Wasteland board. Place one corresponding dinosaur token from the supply on each of these chips. If the chip has a meat icon, place one corresponding meat token from the supply onto the chip along with the dinosaur token.
- Put all 4 blue Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chips into the cloth bag. From the orange Round chips, find the Round 1 chip and put it into the cloth bag. (Set aside the chips for Rounds 2-4.) Then mix the contents of the cloth bag well.
- For each space on the Main board track, draw one chip randomly from the cloth bag and place it face-up on the track.
- Select 3 Special Dinosaur cards randomly (or of your own choice) and place them next to the Main board. Place all corresponding Special Dinosaur tokens for each card onto the card. Return the remaining Special Dinosaur cards and Special Dinosaur tokens to the box. Once familiar with the game, try using up to 6 Special Dinosaur cards.
- Place all the volcano tokens on the Wasteland board.
- Place the Round marker on the "1" space of the Round track in the center of the Main board.
Player Setup
Each player then performs the following setup:
- Each player receives one Dinosaur Park board and one Feed Bag tile. Place both in front of you with the "MAX 3" side of the Feed Bag tile facing up.
- Place one Cover tile of the correct shape over each of the 6 lakes on your Dinosaur Park board.
- Each player receives one random Predator Track board and places it face-up above their Dinosaur Park board.
- Each player receives 2 Event cards face down at random. Look at both, choose one, and place it face-up to the right of your Dinosaur Park board. All players do this simultaneously. Return all unchosen and undistributed Event cards to the box.
- Take one Fund marker and place it on the "2" space of the Fund track at the top of your Dinosaur Park board.
- Choose a player color and take the following components in that color: 1 Owner token, 1 Employee token, 1 Feeder token, 5 cubes, 1 Predator marker, and 5 Bonus cards. The Bonus cards form your hand.
- Place the Employee token on the space outlined with a dotted line on the Employee path (auburn spaces) in the center of your Dinosaur Park board.
- Place the Feeder token on the space outlined with a dotted line on the Feeder path (light blue spaces) which is drawn along the border of the Dinosaur Park board.
- Place one of your cubes on the leftmost space of your Event card—this becomes your Event marker. Place the remaining 4 cubes in front of you.
- Place the Predator marker on the starting space of your Predator track.
- Choose a starting player by any method. The starting player places their Owner token on the "1st" space of the Standby track on the Main board. Other players place their tokens above in clockwise order.
- Return all leftover components to the box. You're now ready to begin playing Dino Garden!
Funds
Funds are a resource gained and spent throughout the game. When gaining funds, move the Funds Marker right the corresponding amount of spaces. The maximum funds you can hold is 15. Any excess over 15 is lost. When spending funds, move the marker to the left. If you don't have sufficient funds, you cannot take actions that require payment.
Game Flow
The following rules are for 3 to 4 players. See "2 Players and Solo Mode" for changes when playing with 2 players or for the solo mode.
The game is played over 3 rounds with 3 players, and 4 rounds with 4 players. After the designated number of rounds, final scoring takes place, and the player with the most victory points is declared the winner.
Round Flow
Each round consists of the following 4 phases, performed in order:
- Action phase: The player whose Owner token is farthest behind on the Main track takes their turn by moving their Owner token forward along the track. This process continues until all Owner tokens have completed one full loop of the track.
- Predator phase: Carnivorous dinosaur tokens prey on meat tokens within the same area. In the final round, skip the phases below and proceed directly to final scoring when the Predator phase ends.
- Producer phase: Herbivorous dinosaur tokens produce new meat tokens.
- Next Round Preparation phase: Prepare for the next round.
1. Action Phase
Important note about turn order: During the Action phase, players take their turns—but not necessarily in clockwise order. The player whose Owner token is farthest behind on the Main track always takes the next turn. On your turn, move your Owner token forward any number of spaces along the Main track. If, after moving, your token is still the farthest behind, you will take another turn immediately.
At the start of the round, all Owner tokens begin on the Standby track. On this track, tokens positioned lower are considered farther behind (and will take their turns earlier).
On Your Turn
On your turn, perform the following three steps in order.
- Move Your Owner token
- Resolve Chip Actions
- Resolve Space Actions (if applicable)
You may also perform any free actions at any time during your turn. Once you have completed everything, your turn ends. The next turn goes to the player whose Owner token is now farthest behind on the track. If there are no spaces left on the Main track that you can or want to stop on, move your Owner token to the Standby track during Step 1 and enter standby (explained later). Once all players have moved to standby, proceed to Phase 2 Predator phase.
Step 1: Move Your Owner Token
Move your Owner token clockwise along the Main track by as many spaces as you wish. There is no upper limit to the number of spaces you may move, but you must move at least one space on your turn. You cannot stop on a space occupied by another Owner token. Moving your Owner token backward (counterclockwise) is not allowed.
Move to Standby: If there are no more spaces you wish to stop at—or can legally stop at—on the Main track, place your Owner token on the lowest available space of the Standby track. (This allows you to take your turn earlier in the next round.) Your turn ends immediately, and you exit the current Action phase. In other words, you will be skipped for the remainder of this Action phase. Once all players have moved to the Standby Track, proceed to the Predator Phase.
Step 2: Resolve Chip Actions
Check the color of the chip on the space where your Owner token finally landed. Perform the action corresponding to the color.
Note: The chip is not removed after the action is performed.
If the chip is beige...
Beige chips are called Dinosaur chips. Their action allows you to add a Dinosaur token to your Dinosaur Park board.
Take one dinosaur token (of the dinosaur shown on the chip) from the supply and place it temporarily beside your Dinosaur Park board. If the dinosaur is herbivorous, take one corresponding meat token from the supply and also place it beside your Dinosaur Park board.
Herbivores and Carnivores: Each Regular Dinosaur token is classified as either a herbivore or a carnivore.
- Herbivores: The three types of herbivorous dinosaur tokens each have a specific type of meat token assigned to them. This information can be found in the summary on the Predator Track board and is also indicated on the corresponding Dinosaur chips. When you gain a herbivorous dinosaur token from a chip on the Main track, you also gain 1 meat token of the corresponding type from the supply.
- Carnivores: The three types of carnivorous dinosaur tokens each have a specific type of meat token they can prey on (this is also shown in the summary on the Predator Track board). Details on this will be explained later under the "Predator" section.
Note: Whether a dinosaur token is a herbivore or carnivore is not based on whether that dinosaur was a real-life herbivore or carnivore. The herbivore/carnivore classification is a gameplay attribute assigned to each token. If a dinosaur token is not explicitly marked as either herbivore or carnivore, it is considered to have neither attribute.
Next, move your Employee token 1 to 3 spaces clockwise along the Employee path on your Dinosaur Park board. This movement is mandatory.
Note: You cannot move the Feeder token (on the outer track) during this process.
Additional Employee movement: Normally, an Employee token may move up to 3 spaces clockwise. However, after moving 3 spaces, you may pay 1 fund to move a 4th space, and pay 1 more fund (2 in total) to move a 5th space. You can pay to move up to 2 additional spaces per turn, meaning a maximum of 5 spaces in total. Therefore, you cannot move an Employee all the way around the path to return to the space where it started.
Events: Along the Employee path, there is one arrow with an Event icon. When your Employee token passes this icon, you immediately gain funds from this event based on the position of the Event marker on your Event card.
At the start of the game, your Event marker is placed on the leftmost space (1 fund). Therefore, the first time your Employee token moves, you will gain 1 fund.
The two rightmost areas on your Dinosaur Park board are called Event areas. Your Event card shows a set of Dinosaur tokens. Always adjust the Event marker on your Event card according to how many sets of the depicted Dinosaur tokens you have placed in your Event areas (for this purpose, it does not matter how the Dinosaur tokens are distributed among the two Event areas). Your Event marker cannot advance beyond the rightmost space on the card.
Example: You have an Event card that rewards you for each "Set of Pachycephalosaurus and Triceratops tokens". You have 2 Pachycephalosaurus tokens in the upper Event area and 2 Triceratops tokens in the lower Event area. This makes 2 full sets. When your Employee crosses the Event icon, you will immediately gain 3 funds.
After receiving the Event income, you may continue moving your Employee token for the remaining number of spaces. Since the income is received the moment you pass the Event icon, you may also immediately spend those funds to move your Employee additional spaces (a 4th and/or 5th space, if desired).
After you finish moving your Employee token, place the dinosaur token (and meat token) you placed beside your Dinosaur Park board into one of the areas on your Dinosaur Park board. You may only place it in one of the two areas adjacent to the space where your Employee token landed. If there is a meat token, you must place it in the same area as the dinosaur token. When placing a token (or any other component) in an area, you must follow the Placement Rules below.
Placement Rules
| Type | Size |
|---|---|
| Pachycephalosaurus token | 1 |
| Velociraptor token | 1 |
| Triceratops token | 2 |
| Tyrannosaurus token | 2 |
| Pteranodon token | 1 |
| Elasmosaurus token | 3 |
| Meat token | 0 |
| Volcano token | 0 (Expand area size by 2) |
| Lake | 0 (Expand area size by 2) |
- Each dinosaur token (and other component) that can be placed in an area has a specific, fixed size. The size of each area is 4. The total size of the dinosaur tokens placed within a single area must not exceed the area's size (in other words, you cannot place dinosaur tokens whose total size is 5 or more).
- However, if there is a volcano token or a lake in the area, the area's size increases by 2, making the total size 6. The method of obtaining volcano tokens and lakes will be explained later.
- Only one volcano token can exist in each area.
- Elasmosaurus can only exist in an area with a lake.
- Volcano tokens must be placed on the icon depicted on the cover tile. Therefore, an area that has a volcano cannot have a lake. Likewise, an area with a lake cannot have a volcano.
- You may have multiple tokens of the same dinosaur type within a single area.
- Meat tokens are placed on the rocky area at the edge of each area. There is no limit to the number of meat tokens that can be placed in each area.
Example: In one area, there is 1 Pachycephalosaurus token, 1 Triceratops token, 1 Elasmosaurus token, 1 Small meat token, 1 Medium meat token, and a lake. The total size of the dinosaur tokens is 6, but the presence of a lake increases the area's size by 2 (from 4 to 6) which satisfies the placement rules. Additionally, because of the lake, the Elasmosaurus token is allowed to exist in this area.
Additional Purchases: On their turn, a player may freely perform the following additional purchases either immediately before or immediately after placing a dinosaur token taken from the supply (after moving their Employee token).
- Pay 2 funds to take 1 volcano token from the Wasteland board and place it in an area adjacent to the space where the Employee token is located. This action may be performed as many times as desired, as long as there are available volcano tokens on the Wasteland board.
- Pay 2 funds to remove 1 cover tile from an area adjacent to the space where the Employee token is located, and place the tile next to your Dinosaur Park board. This reveals a lake in that area. This action may be performed as many times as possible, if desired.
- Pay 2 funds to take 1 dinosaur token (including Special Dinosaur tokens) of your choice from the Wasteland board and place it in an area adjacent to the space where the Employee token is located. You may only purchase 1 dinosaur token per turn from the Wasteland board.
- If you purchase a dinosaur token from on top of a Dinosaur chip, it is not replenished. If there are any meat tokens on the chip, they are placed in the same area along with the dinosaur token.
- If you purchase an additional dinosaur token that is not on top of a dinosaur chip, you do not receive a meat token (regardless if they are a herbivore).
Example: During your turn, you gained 1 Elasmosaurus token through a chip action. However, the area where you plan to place the Elasmosaurus token does not have a lake. So, you pay 2 funds to uncover a lake in that area, allowing you to place the Elasmosaurus. Then, you pay 2 funds to purchase 1 Pachycephalosaurus token from the Wasteland board (not from a chip) and place it in an area adjacent to the space where your Employee token is located. In this case, you do not receive the corresponding meat token for the Pachycephalosaurus.
Important: You cannot perform additional purchases before moving your Employee token.
If the chip is orange...
Orange chips are called Round chips. These chips modify the dinosaur tokens that appear in each round, and during the Action phase, they are treated exactly the same as the beige Dinosaur chips. Therefore, you perform the same actions with an orange chip as you would with a beige chip. For orange chips that appear in Rounds 2 and 4, you may choose to gain one of the two dinosaur tokens shown on the chip.
If the chip is blue...
Blue chips are called Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chips. When you land on one, you may choose either to use an advertisement or to purchase a Special Dinosaur token.
Important: On a turn where your Owner token lands on an Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chip, you may not move your Employee token (unlike when landing on a Dinosaur chip or Round chip). No additional purchases may be made on this turn.
Advertisement: Gain 3 funds immediately.
Purchasing a Special Dinosaur Token: Choose one of the available Special Dinosaur cards and purchase one Special Dinosaur token from that card. First, pay the cost shown on the chosen Special Dinosaur card. Then, take one Special Dinosaur token from that card and place it in any of your areas, regardless of the position of your Employee token. Remember that you cannot move your Employee token or make any additional purchases after this action.
Special Dinosaur tokens have the following features:
- Each dinosaur has a unique ability, as shown on its corresponding card.
- Special Dinosaur tokens always have a size of 0.
- You cannot place more than 1 Special Dinosaur token in a single area, regardless of the type. However, you may purchase the same type again as long as you place it in a different area.
- Once placed in an area, the Special Dinosaur token is treated the same as a Regular Dinosaur token except for its ability. You can move it to the Wasteland board (as explained later) or purchase it from the Wasteland board for 2 funds.
Step 3: Resolve Space Actions (if applicable)
When your Owner token lands on a space with any of the icons below, you may perform the corresponding action. Please note that space actions are only performed after resolving the chip action (and any additional purchases). Some icons are only used for 3 to 4 players games.
Feeding: This action involves moving the Feeder token to transport meat tokens between areas.
Move your Feeder token on your Dinosaur Park board 1 to 3 spaces counterclockwise along the Feeder Path. This movement is mandatory. In addition, you may pay 1 fund per extra space to move the Feeder token farther. Unlike the Employee token, there is no limit to how many extra spaces you can move by paying funds. You may even move a complete loop to return to the same space you started from.
Before, during, and after moving the Feeder token, you may freely perform the following actions as many times as you wish:
- Take 1 meat token from the area where the Feeder token is located and place it on your Feed Bag tile.
- Take 1 meat token from the Feed Bag tile and place it in the area where the Feeder token is located.
You can have a maximum of 3 meat tokens on your Feed Bag tile at any time. It cannot hold a fourth token—however, by purchasing a Feed Bag Upgrade (see Free Actions), you can increase this limit to 5 tokens.
You may end your Feeder token's movement with meat tokens still remaining on the Feed Bag tile, if you wish to do so.
You cannot move or transfer meat tokens outside of the Feeding action. During the Predator Phase, carnivorous dinosaur tokens will prey on meat tokens—but that is separate from Feeding. Feeding only involves moving the tokens; no actual eating takes place during this step.
Example: You perform the Feeding space action. Currently, your Feed Bag tile is empty and has not been upgraded.
- Step 1: First, you take 2 Small Meat tokens from the area where the Feeder token is located and place them on your Feed Bag tile.
- Step 2: Then, you move 1 space counterclockwise, place 1 Small meat token from the Feed Bag tile into that area, and take 2 Medium Meat tokens from the area and add them to the Feed Bag tile.
- Step 3: Next, you move 2 more spaces, then pay 2 funds to move an additional 2 spaces. In this area, you place 1 Small meat token from the Feed Bag tile, and decide to keep the remaining 2 Medium Meat tokens on the tile.
Purchasing a Special Dinosaur Token: Perform the exact same procedure as the "Purchasing a Special Dinosaur Token" action from the Advertisement/Special Dinosaur Chip.
Free Actions
During your turn, you may perform the following free actions at any timing you like—before, after, or even in between steps 1, 2, and 3. You may also perform them during a turn when you are transitioning to the Standby phase.
Achieving Milestone Tiles: At the center of the Main Board, Milestone tiles are arranged in 4 vertical pairs. Between the upper and lower tile of each pair is a space for cubes. You may perform this free action when you have achieved the conditions on at least one of the Milestone tiles.
- You have fulfilled the condition written on the tiles.
- No cube of yours is yet placed in the cube space between the pair of tiles.
Place your Achievement cube as follows:
- When you achieve the 1st Milestone Tile of a pair: Place one of your cubes on the tile.
- When you achieve the 2nd Milestone Tile of a pair: Move the cube that was previously placed on the upper or lower tile of that pair to the cube space in the center of the pair, aligned to the left-most available position. Then choose one Bonus card from your hand, and immediately gain the bonus shown on it.
You may achieve multiple Milestone tiles during a single turn. Once a Milestone tile is achieved and a cube is placed, you do not have to maintain the tile's condition thereafter. If you would like to delay receiving a bonus, you may choose not to achieve a Milestone tile even if you meet its conditions. The conditions and bonuses for each Milestone tile are introduced in the appendix at the end of this rulebook.
Moving to the Wasteland Board and Refilling Lakes: You can move any number of dinosaur or volcano tokens from your Dinosaur Park board to the Wasteland board. Dinosaur tokens moved onto the Wasteland board (including Special Dinosaur tokens) become available for anyone to acquire as an additional purchase by paying 2 funds. You may also refill a lake by returning the removed cover tile to the original area.
Note: When you move volcano tokens or refill lakes, the size of the area decreases. If as a result, the total size of the dinosaur tokens exceeds the area size, you must adjust accordingly by simultaneously moving dinosaur tokens to the Wasteland board to comply with the rules. Similarly, when refilling a lake, if there is an Elasmosaurus token in that area, you must move it to the Wasteland board (as it would violate the placement rules).
Feed Bag Upgrade: Once per game, you may pay 3 funds to flip your Feed Bag tile over. If your tile already has meat tokens on it, move them to the new side. After this upgrade, your Feed Bag tile can hold up to 5 meat tokens.
After completing steps 1 to 3 and as many free actions as you wish, your turn ends.
2. Predator Phase
Refer to the positions of the Owner tokens on the Main Board. The predator process is performed in order, starting from the bottom of the Standby Track and moving upward. Before, after, or even during this phase, players are free to perform the previously mentioned free actions as desired. (Some Milestone tiles have conditions relating to predators.)
Note: During the Predator Phase, you cannot move Feeder or Employee tokens, move meat tokens between Feed Bag tiles and areas, or make additional purchases.
Predators: Each carnivorous dinosaur token on your Dinosaur Park board may consume 1 meat token from the same area. However, the type of meat token that can be consumed depends on the type of dinosaur. (Refer to the summary on the Predator Track board for Regular Dinosaurs.)
(Transcriber's note: the per-dinosaur meat-type summary is printed only as icons on the Predator Track board, and is not spelled out in the rulebook text, so it is not reproduced here.)
Return all meat tokens that were consumed to the supply. Then, advance your Predator marker along the Predator track by the same number of spaces as the number of meat tokens consumed. However, for each Large meat token consumed by a Pteranodon, advance your Predator marker 1 additional space.
If your Predator marker reaches the end of the track, consuming additional meat tokens has no further effect.
Each time your Predator Marker reaches or passes spaces 1, 4, 7, 10, and 13 on the track, you gain the bonus shown below that space. Bonuses come in three types: immediate, ongoing, and end-of-game scoring. Details about these bonuses can be found in the Appendix.
At the end of the Predator Phase, return all remaining meat tokens on your Dinosaur Park board to the supply. Meat tokens on Feed Bag tiles are also returned to the supply.
3. Producer Phase
Important: In the final round, skip this phase and the next one. Proceed directly to final scoring.
All players perform this phase simultaneously. For each herbivorous dinosaur token on your Dinosaur Park board, take one corresponding type of meat token from the supply and place it in the same area as that token.
4. Next Round Preparation Phase
Perform the following steps in order:
- If any dinosaur tokens remain on beige chips on the Wasteland board, move them down onto the Wasteland Board. If they are carrying any meat tokens, return those meat tokens to the supply.
- Remove the Round Chip from the Main track and set it aside.
- Following steps 5 to 8 of the Setup, prepare the Wasteland board and Main track for the next round. Be sure to use the orange Round chip corresponding to the upcoming round.
- Move the Round marker one space down on the Round track.
The next round begins with the player whose Owner token is at the bottom of the Standby track.
Game End and Final Scoring
After the Predator phase of the third round in a 3-player game, or the fourth round in a 4-player game, the game ends. Each player calculates their victory points as follows:
Dinosaur Tokens in Your Dinosaur Park: For each of your 6 areas, you score victory points from the Regular Dinosaur tokens placed as follows:
- For each Pachycephalosaurus token, score 2 victory points if there is a lake in the same area; otherwise, score 1 victory point.
- For each Triceratops token, score 3 victory points if there is a lake in the same area; otherwise, score 1 victory point.
- For each Velociraptor token, score 2 victory points if there is a volcano in the same area; otherwise, score 1 victory point.
- For each Tyrannosaurus token, score 3 victory points if there is a volcano in the same area; otherwise, score 1 victory point.
- For each Pteranodon token, score 3 victory points if there is a volcano in the same area; otherwise, score 1 victory point.
- For each Elasmosaurus token, score 5 victory points.
- For each Special Dinosaur token, score victory points as indicated on its corresponding Special Dinosaur card.
Volcano tokens and lakes only boost the victory points gained from dinosaur tokens in the area; by themselves, they do not generate victory points.
Predator Track Progress: Gain victory points as shown on the space where your Predator marker is located.
Predator Track Bonus: Gain victory points from any end-game scoring bonus effects located at the bottom of the Predator Track board, provided that you have reached the corresponding space.
Milestones: Gain victory points as shown beneath your own cube in the cube space between each Milestone tile pair. Note that you do not gain any points for cubes on top of Milestone tiles.
Event Cards: Check the position of your Event marker on your Event card and gain the victory points shown at the bottom of that column.
Standby Track: Gain the victory points shown to the right of the space on the Standby track where your Owner token is located. (The earlier you move to Standby in the final round, the more victory points you gain.)
Feed Bag Tiles: Score 3 victory points if your Feed Bag tile has been upgraded.
The player with the most total victory points is the winner! In case of a tie, all players tied for the highest score are declared winners.
Two-Player Rules
When playing Dino Garden with two players, a neutral owner token named Lucy (not belonging to any player) is placed on the Main track. In principle, the setup and rules for three players are followed, but the following additional setup and rule changes apply specifically for Lucy:
- During setup, one unused color Owner token is designated as Lucy and placed on the space marked "3rd" on the Standby track.
- During the game, if Lucy is the farthest behind, Lucy moves forward to the nearest possible space and ends their turn.
- Owner tokens of players cannot move to the same space as Lucy. Lucy exists solely to enforce this restriction and does not gain any dinosaur tokens or other benefits.
- If Lucy cannot move forward because no spaces are available, Lucy moves to the lowest available space on the Standby track.
Game End and Final Scoring (2 Players)
At the end of the Predator phase of the 3rd round, the game ends. Final scoring follows the same rules as in a 3- or 4-player game and the player with the most victory points wins. Lucy does not gain any victory points.
Solo Rules
Dino Garden can be played solo! Challenge yourself to achieve a high score and build the dinosaur park of your dreams!
Setup
Set up the game as for a 3-player game, with the following changes:
- Choose any 3 Special Dinosaur cards you like.
- Randomly choose 1 Predator Track board as usual.
- When placing chips on the Main track, place Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chips on the locations shown in the diagram. Place all other chips randomly on the available spaces.
- Use only your own Owner token.
Sections
The Main track alternates between 3 Dinosaur or Round chips and 1 Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chip. Each group of 3 consecutive Dinosaur or Round chips is referred to as a Section. There are a total of 5 Sections on the Main track, each separated by an Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chip.
Game Play
All rules for a 3-player game apply, except for the following changes:
- Start of Round: At the beginning of each round, before the Action phase, gain funds equal to the round number.
- Acquiring Dinosaur Tokens: When advancing your Owner token, you must acquire exactly one dinosaur token from each section. Therefore, you will obtain a total of 5 dinosaur tokens per round from the 5 sections.
- Note: You cannot choose to skip all spaces of a section. If you do not want to place any dinosaur token from a section into one of your areas, you can move your Owner token to one of the spaces in that section and then move the acquired dinosaur token to the Wasteland board. In addition, you cannot stop on 2 or more spaces in the same section during one round.
- Advertisement/Special Dinosaur Chips: The 4 Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chips can each be used only once per game. When you land on a space with an Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chip, perform its action and then flip that chip face down.
- Space Actions: Ignore all Feeding icons and Special Dinosaur purchase icons printed on the Main track.
- Bonus Cards: When acquiring a Bonus Dinosaur token, choose one from the 6 types as usual.
- Moving to Standby: When moving to Standby, place your Owner token on the bottom space of the Standby track. Upon entering the track, immediately perform the Feeding action one time.
- Next Round Preparation phase: Advertisement/Special Dinosaur chips are not returned to the bag but remain on their current spaces. Place chips for the Main track only on the remaining empty spaces.
End of Game and Final Scoring
After the Predator phase of Round 3, perform final scoring in the same way as a 3-player game. We recommend setting your initial goal at 130 victory points or above. If you reach 150 victory points or more, your Dinosaur Park undoubtedly has a long queue of visitors!
Appendix
Ability Notes
Parasaurolophus: In an area with this token, each meat token may be used twice.
Example: An area has 1 Parasaurolophus token, 1 Pteranodon token, 1 Velociraptor token, 2 Tyrannosaurus tokens, 2 Large Meat tokens, and a volcano. Since each meat token in this area may be used twice, every carnivorous dinosaur consumes a Large Meat token and the Predator marker advances 5 spaces.
Dracorex: Dracorex allows you to gain 1 additional fund from each event, but the position of the Event marker is not changed.
Milestone Tiles
(Transcriber's note: the tile faces are printed as icons; the rulebook describes each type as follows.)
- Upper tiles: You have at least the specified number of the specified dinosaur tokens in total across all areas. (Six tiles, one per Regular Dinosaur type, with required counts 3, 3, 4, 4, 2, 2.)
- Lower tiles:
- Within one area, you have all the required dinosaur tokens. (Two tiles.)
- Your Predator marker is on or beyond the 7 Victory Points space of the Predator track.
- You have 2 or more Special Dinosaur tokens in total across all areas.
- You have 7 or more funds.
- Your Event marker is on or beyond the "2" space of the Event card.
Bonus Cards
Each time you complete a pair of Milestone tiles (upper and lower), take and discard one card from your hand, and immediately gain the bonus shown.
- Gain 5 funds.
- Advance your Predator marker 4 spaces on the Predator Track.
- Gain 1 volcano token and 1 lake in any area, regardless of your Employee token's position.
- Purchase 1 Special Dinosaur token from any Special Dinosaur card. When doing so, reduce the cost by 2 funds (the cost cannot go below 0).
- Choose 1 Bonus Dinosaur token remaining next to the Main board and place it in any area, regardless of your Employee token's position.
