Wyvern Monarch
Wyvern card (front). Printed title: "Wyvern Monarch", on a parchment banner at the top, with a purple drop icon carrying a white dash at the top right of the banner. The card art shows a large yellow wyvern rearing up through green forest. A bottom panel of shot icons sits over the art, and the footer reads "WYVERN".
Card Contents
The card prints the following, read top to bottom and left to right:
- Title. "Wyvern Monarch".
- Purple drop icon with a white dash, at the top right of the title banner. This is the invulnerable icon.
- Icon panel, in three parts separated by brown bars:
- Top left: a white fist on a black disc, then a ">" connector, then a white fanged shape on a black disc.
- Top right: a yellow flame on a red disc, then a ">" connector, then a yellow flame on a red disc.
- Bottom: a white fist on a black disc, then a ">" connector, then three white chevrons on a black disc, then a ">" connector, then a white "V" on a black disc. Beneath the "V" disc is printed "P|H|V".
- Type footer, bottom left: a black curved claw-shaped mark and the word "WYVERN".
The card has no printed rules text.
Shot Sequences
The card prints three shot sequences, one per icon part:
- Top left: a melee shot, then a bite shot.
- Top right: a fireball shot, then a fireball shot.
- Bottom: a melee shot, then a rush shot, then a Wyvern Strike shot. "P|H|V" is printed beneath the last icon.
Notes on the icons
- Shot sequences. The ">" between icons is the "Then" connector, which the base rulebook defines as performing the shots in a row, in that order. The brown bars separate the three sequences. The Wyverns of Wylemuir rulebook says a Wyvern performs one of its shot sequences per action: the default sequence by default, or one of the other two after the rider pays Wyvern Claw Tokens.
- Melee shot. The white fist is read as the melee shot, which the base rulebook defines as a character shot inflicting one point of damage by default. The fist is on a black disc, so it is read as an unmodified melee shot.
- Rush shot. The three white chevrons are read as the rush shot, which the base rulebook defines as a character shot with no damage. The base rulebook prints no chevron glyph; this reading is a judgment call, the same one used in the Shadowlithe Fist promo.
- Bite shot. The white fanged shape on a black disc is read as the bite shot, which the base rulebook defines as a character shot inflicting two points of damage. The base rulebook prints no glyph for the bite shot; this reading is a judgment call, based on the fangs and on the shot's name.
- Fireball shot. The yellow flame is read as the fireball shot, which the base rulebook lists among the ranged shots as inflicting one point of damage. Both flames are the same icon, so both shots are read as plain fireball shots. The flames sit on red discs. The base rulebook says a modified shot shows in a different colour, and the critical modifier is also red, so the red disc could in principle signal a modifier. The card prints no modifier name, and the base rulebook lists the fireball as an unmodified shot, so the red disc is not treated as a modifier here. This is a judgment call.
- Wyvern Strike. The white "V" is read as the Wyvern Strike shot. The Wyverns of Wylemuir rulebook names the Wyvern Strike as the shot that collects Wyvern Claw Tokens when it directly hits an opponent's character disc, and that it does zero damage when used against another Wyvern. The Wylemuir rulebook prints no glyph for this shot; the reading of the "V" as the Wyvern Strike is a judgment call.
Note on a related card
The 10th Anniversary Pack rulebook (catacombs-third-edition-10th-anniversary-pack-rulebook.md) also describes a "Wyvern Monarch" card, from a "10 WYVERN" footer scan. Its icon description does not match this scan (for example, it describes a sound-wave mark and a red downward triangle that this scan does not show). This file follows this scan. The two cards may differ in print, and the discrepancy is noted here for the orchestrator rather than resolved in either file.
Scan note: the card scan is 598x876, the full-size BGG image. Every icon was checked at a magnified crop before being transcribed. Only the printed title, banner, icons and footer are transcribed; the artist and copyright line are omitted as attribution.
