The River II consists of 12 tiles plus this rules sheet.

The River II tiles are shown in small form on the original sheet.

Setup

The River tiles are placed first. The source, the fork, and the lake with the volcano are set aside separately. The remaining tiles are shuffled and placed face down in a stack.

The source is placed in the middle of the table. The youngest player places the fork next to it. Then the players take turns placing a river tile against one of the two branches of the river. The lake with the volcano is placed last.

Placing Tiles

Tiles may be placed freely, with two exceptions:

  1. The arms of the river may not be connected to each other.
  2. No U-turn may be made in the river.

Followers

Each player may place followers (horigen) as in the base game. No follower may be placed on the river itself.

The player who places the last tile, the lake with the volcano, may not place a follower on that tile. That player then begins the continuation of the game.

Special Tiles

If you are playing with the base game only, the inn, the pigsty, and the volcano have no further effect.

1. The Inn

See the rules of "De uitbreiding" ("The Expansion") for the inn.

Translator's note: the Dutch sheet does not name this expansion. The catalogued Expansion 6 rulebook identifies the inn as following the rules of Expansion 1 (Inns & Cathedrals).

2. The Pigsty

The farmer who owns this meadow gets 1 extra point per city. This bonus is added on top of the extra points for the pig in the expansion "Traders & Builders" (Kooplieden en Bouwmeesters).

3. The Volcano

See the rules of "De draak, de fee en de jonkvrouw" ("The Dragon, the Fairy and the Maiden") for the volcano.
