Setting up the Game

  1. Place wooden animals scattered across the table.
  2. Shuffle the zoo cards and place them face-down in a deck where all players can reach.

Playing the Game

A game of Zoople plays in five rounds.

Choose the youngest player as the starting player for the first round.

On each player's turn, flip a zoo card face-up from the top of the deck in a discard pile. Whatever animal is on the zoo card, stack that animal on the structure, called a "Zoople", using only one hand.

If this is the first animal played, place it however you want on the table. If this is not the first, it must stack on the existing Zoople and not touch the table.

Special Cards

  • If you flip this card, you choose one of the animals which are not played yet to stack.
  • If you flip this card, skip your turn. Players take turn in the opposite direction from now.

Stacking Rules

When you stack an animal, follow the below rules.

  • If you flip a zoo card of the animal which already stacks on the Zoople, you must skip your turn.
  • You must use only one hand when you stack.
  • Animal pieces may be placed in any orientation.
  • The player may touch other animals but may not lift other animals.

Toppling

If the Zoople topples or any piece falls, the round is over. The player that topples the Zoople counts the points in the discard pile. Add the total to their penalty score.

Example: Tylor toppled the Zoople. He counts the points in the discard pile including the Camel card he just flipped. 1 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 0 + 6 = 15 points. He adds 15 points to his penalty score.

Stacking the Last Animal

When a player stacks the last animal remaining on the table, the round is over. All the other players except the player add 20 points to their penalty score.

End of the Game

Once a round is over, prepare the next round following the setting up the game. The player who played last in the previous round becomes the new starting player.

After the fifth round, the game is over. The player with the lowest penalty score is the winner. If there is a tie, all tied players win!

Playing with Younger Players

  • For a game with younger players, let them use both hands when they stack.
  • And, animal pieces must be placed as their flat sides touch the flat sides of other pieces.
  • When a player counts their penalty score, they just count the number of cards instead of the points of the card.
  • When a player succeeds in stacking the last animal, all the other players add 5 points, instead of 20 points, to their penalty score.
