Pet Cage

Expansion for 2–5 players, for use with Zooloretto.

Contents

  • Pet Cages: 5

Note: this expansion cannot be played on its own. The Zooloretto base game is required.

Setup

Before play, carefully punch the tiles out of the frames.

Each player takes 1 Pet Cage and places it face up next to their zoo board.

Game Flow

The standard Zooloretto rules apply, with the following additional rules.

  • The Pet Cage is a cage for babies. Only baby tiles may be placed in it. It has two rooms.
  • When an animal gives birth, you must immediately choose whether to place the baby in the Pet Cage or in the cage with its parent.
  • Babies may not be placed in the Pet Cage at any other time.
  • The first time a player places a baby in their Pet Cage, they gain 1 coin. The second time a player places a baby in their Pet Cage, they gain 2 coins.

Note: babies cannot be moved using the Rebuild action with the Pet Cage. Babies cannot be moved from or to the Pet Cage using the Exchange action.

Supplementary note: as in the base game, prolific animals also give birth only once.

Combining with Expansions and Variants

This expansion can be combined only with the base game.

Note: this expansion cannot be combined with other expansions or variants.

Savings Book

Expansion for 2–5 players, for use with Zooloretto.

Contents

  • Savings Books: 5

Setup

Each player takes a Savings Book and places it face up in their play area. Set aside any spare Savings Books.

Game Flow

During their turn, a player may choose a new action: "Deposit in Savings Book".

Deposit in Savings Book

The player takes 1 coin from their supply and places it on the space marked "1" in their Savings Book.

End of Round

The round ends as normal. Each player who has a coin on their Savings Book moves that coin to the next higher numbered space. When a coin reaches the space marked "4", the player returns it to their supply and takes 1 coin from the bank. This is the interest they have earned.

Important: a player cannot take coins back out of the Savings Book until the coin has reached "4".

Note: a player may use their Savings Book as many times as they like during the game.

End of Game

When counting coins for a tie-break at the end of the game, also count the coins on the Savings Books.

Combining with Expansions and Variants

This expansion can be combined only with the base game.

Note: this expansion cannot be combined with other expansions or variants.

Source note: the BoardGameGeek entry lists the Savings Book as usable with either Zooloretto or Aquaretto. The printed sheet in this Japanese document refers only to the Zooloretto base game, so this section follows the printed sheet.

Training Area

Expansion for 2–5 players.

Contents

  • Training Areas: 5

Note: this expansion cannot be played on its own. The Zooloretto base game is required.

Setup

Each player takes a Training Area and places it face up to the left of their zoo board.

Note: if you play with Zooloretto Boss, place the Training Area to the left of your office board.

Game Flow

The Training Area is neither a cage nor a barn. It is provided for exactly one animal tile.

Source note: the sheet prints the following heading here. It is a literal translation of the printed Japanese and does not match the text beneath it; it is kept as printed.

B. Take the truck and pass the remaining rounds

  • Animal tiles: If there is no room in the cages for an animal, it must be placed in the Training Area, as long as the Training Area is empty. If an animal tile is already placed in this area, the 2 tiles must be placed next to each other, and one of them must be chosen and placed in the barn.

C. Actions That Cost Money

I. Rebuild

☞ Move

  • The player may move 1 animal tile from the Training Area into an empty cage. This action is free.

    or

  • The player may move 1 animal tile from a barn into an empty Training Area. This action is free.

☞ Exchange

  • The player may pay 1 coin to exchange the animal tile in their Training Area with an animal tile in another player's Training Area.
  • The rules for moving and exchanging animal tiles in the Training Area follow the other rules.

II. Buying or Discarding Tiles

Animal tiles in the Training Area cannot be bought or discarded.

End of Game

Scoring

Animal tiles in the Training Area neither gain nor lose points.

Using the Training Area with Exotic

No jungle animals may be placed in the Training Area.

Combining with Expansions and Variants

The Training Area can be combined with several expansions.

Trains

Expansion for 2–5 players, for use with Aquaretto.

Contents

  • Train tiles: 18 (12 train cars, 3 in each of 4 colors; 6 curved track tiles)

Note: this expansion cannot be played on its own. The Aquaretto base game is required.

Setup

Shuffle the train tiles well together with the other tiles.

Game Procedure

When a player takes a truck carrying a train tile, they must immediately place the train tile in their aquarium.

When a train tile is placed on an empty space for the first time, later tiles must be able to extend the track at either end.

Note: a player may not have enough space in their aquarium to lay out the track. A player may place a train tile where the track cannot continue (for example, where it ends at a tank). This is legal, although it is usually not a good move. If a player cannot place a train tile, they must return it to the bottom of the stack.

Train tiles cannot be moved by actions that cost money.

Scoring

The scoring differs from the base game as follows:

  • A player with different types of train tiles (curves and the 4 differently colored train cars) in their aquarium gains +2 points.
  • A player with different types of train tiles (curves and the 4 differently colored train cars) in their warehouse loses 2 points.

Note: the warehouse manager halves the points lost.

Combining with Expansions and Variants

This expansion can be combined only with Aquaretto.

Three Coworkers

Expansion for 2–5 players, for use with Aquaretto.

Contents

  • Three coworker tiles: Instruction Area, Training Area, Research Laboratory

Note: this expansion cannot be played on its own. The Aquaretto base game is required.

Setup

Place the coworker tiles in the center of the table.

Game Procedure

Whenever a player gets an employee, they may take any one of the coworker tiles in the center of the table that is still available.

Instruction Area

The owner places this tile in their play area, then places an employee piece on it. This employee is a manager. A player may have only one manager. A manager cannot be moved.

  • When the owner takes this tile, they immediately gain 5 coins from the bank. If the bank does not have enough coins, the owner gains as many as are left.
  • The owner may use the buy-and-discard tile action regardless of the order of the warehouse, but the order cannot be changed.

Training Area

The owner places this tile in their play area, then places an employee piece on it. Up to 2 employee pieces may be placed on this tile. Employee pieces cannot be moved.

Scoring: The owner of the Training Area gains a bonus of +2 points for each animal tile with a lightning mark, for each employee piece in the Training Area. So if 2 employee pieces are on the Training Area, the owner gains a bonus of +4 points for each animal tile with a lightning mark.

In addition, the owner may train animals with lightning marks. If these animals are adjacent to the trainer, the player receives additional points from this trainer for each animal with a lightning mark.

Research Laboratory

Note: this tile can only be taken when the first employee piece is acquired.

The owner places this tile in their play area and places the employee piece they have just gained on an animal tile in the aquarium. This employee is a researcher. A researcher cannot be moved.

Scoring: The owner of the Research Laboratory gains +1 point for each animal tile adjacent to the researcher.

Combining with Expansions and Variants

This expansion can be combined only with Aquaretto.
