Idea and Object of the Game

Seek the animals, slap as quickly as possible on the correct slapping card and gain more animals than anyone else in order to win the game.

Material

The cards:

  • barn
  • slapping cards (6x)
  • dung heap (5x)
  • hiding cards (15x)
  • seek cards (32x)

Set-up

  • Each player puts one dung heap card down in front of him.
  • Put the barn between two of the players.
  • Shuffle the 15 hiding cards and place the same number of them easily visible next to each dung heap and by the barn.
  • Put 5 of the seek cards with a red back into the game box without having a look at them. Shuffle the remaining and use them to form a pile in the middle of the table. At the beginning of the game, the back of the top card must be red.
  • Put the slapping cards around this pile. If you don't play with 5 players, there will be slapping cards left over that you don't need; put them back into the box.

In a three-player game, each of you gets 4 hiding cards; put 3 by the barn.

In a five-player game, each of you gets 3 hiding cards, but the barn remains empty (for now).

Everybody Plays Simultaneously!

The player who was the one to see a chicken most recently turns over the top card of the seek card pile, in a way that all players can see the front of the card at the same time.

Where is the revealed animal hiding? If you see it, you slap with one hand on the correct slapping card, which is the one that corresponds to the color of the dung heap (or the barn) next to which the sought animal is actually hiding.

Attention: Everybody may slap only once per animal revealed!

Example: the revealed card shows a goose. "Well observed! The goose is hiding next to the red dung heap." Slap on the red slapping card in order to receive the hidden goose!

Well Done! The Animal Comes to You!

Whoever is the first to slap on the correct slapping card gets the hiding card of the sought animal (from another player's dung heap or from the barn) and puts it by his dung heap. If this player owns the sought animal already, he just keeps it and the game goes on.

Oops! That Didn't Go Right!

If you slap on an incorrect slapping card, you remove any one of your hiding cards from your dung heap and put it by the barn (if you don't have any animal, you don't give up any, of course).

For clarification: It may occur that the sought animal lies at your dung heap but that you slapped on the wrong slapping card. In this case you lose two animals: You have to put one by the barn because you have slapped incorrectly. You lose the other (the sought) animal to the player who has (correctly) slapped on your slapping card. If you have only one animal at the moment, you give it to the other player, not to the barn.

Example: The caterpillar is sought! Lizzy slaps on Hugo's (blue) slapping card. But this is wrong, because the caterpillar is hiding with Gordon. Although Lizzy realizes this, she may not slap on the correct card anymore. Nina is the first to slap on Gordon's card. She gets the caterpillar. Lizzy has to put one of her animals by the barn.

Oh Foop ... the Poop!

If a player reveals a seek card on which a small heap of poop is depicted, you simply seek the same animal again that was sought previously. (But watch out: This animal might have moved to a new owner since then.)

The Next Search ...

All players take their hands off the slapping cards. Whoever got / kept the hiding card of the sought animal turns over the next seek card (and it's best to put it on the seek card of the previous round so that only the "new" seek card is visible).

End of the Game

As soon as the last seek card of the pile has been revealed, the final animal search takes place; then the game ends. The player with the most animals at his dung heap wins. There can be more than one winner.

Variant for Advanced Seekers

If you get a (sought) hiding card, you may then exchange the slapping card on which you have slapped for another slapping card.

Small hint: When you play the game for the first time, you should place your slapping cards around the pile in such a way that each player is sitting near to his own card. In later games, you can make for "more confusion" by arranging the cards in any other manner.
