Goal of the Game
Be the first player to reach 13 points (of course!). Players earn points by correctly ranking the fears of the other players.
What's in the Box
- 300 Fear cards
- 4 Fear Meters
- 4 erasable markers
Setup
Give each player a Fear Meter and an erasable marker. Shuffle the cards and place them in a pile in the centre of the table.
Playing the Game
The oldest player turns over four Fear cards and places them face up so that everyone can see them.
Each player now fills in the left column of their Fear Meter ("My Fears"), ranking their fears starting with the one that frightens them most (number 1) and moving toward the one that frightens them least (number 4).
After ranking their fears, each player writes the name of one of the other players at the top of the right-hand column of their Fear Meter ("The fears of ___"), then notes the fears in the order that, in their opinion, corresponds to that other player's ranking.
Once all players have finished writing, the oldest player becomes the first "Evaluator". The Evaluator announces which other player they ranked the fears of for this round, and reads out that player's ranking. The player whose fears were evaluated then reads out their own ranking of their fears from the "My Fears" column of their Fear Meter.
Marking Points
For each fear that the Evaluator placed in the correct position, the Evaluator gains one point. If the Evaluator placed all four fears in the correct order, they gain a bonus point (five points in total for that round).
When a player gains points, they tick the boxes with the numbers at the bottom of their Fear Meter.
The player seated to the left of the Evaluator becomes the new Evaluator. This continues until every player has been the Evaluator. Once every player has been an Evaluator, each player writes the name of the player whose fears they ranked in a blank yellow box of their Fear Meter.
Continuing the Game
The oldest player now discards the four Fear cards that were turned over, and the player seated to their left turns over the next four cards. The game continues in this way.
Ranking Other Players' Fears
Players may evaluate the player of their choice, but they may not evaluate the same person again until they have ranked the fears of at least each of the other players. Once a player has ranked the fears of every other player once, they may evaluate the player of their choice again.
Winning the Game
The game continues until a player has reached 13 points.
