Object

Be the first manager to have two wrestlers win one match each.

Contents

1 gameboard, 12 pawns, 8 plastic pawn bases, 12 stat cards, 1 plastic turn marker, 8 dice, red and white plastic scoring pegs.

Game Setup

  1. Carefully punch out the pawns and separate the stat cards from the cardboard sheet.
  2. Choose two pawns, and fit them into two pawn stands of the same color. Then take two dice of the same color, and a stat card to match each of your pawns. Each player does the same. Place all unused pawns, pawn stands, stat cards and dice aside, out of play.
  3. Twist the red and white scoring pegs off the runners. Place the scoring pegs in the tray. Take two white pegs, and place one of them in the Favorite Hold section of each of your stat cards. Each player does the same.
  4. Place one of your pawns on your color TAG TEAM space on the gameboard, and place your other pawn inside the ring, on the color star that matches your pawn stand.

Game Play

  1. The youngest player goes first. Play then proceeds to the left in a clockwise direction. To keep track of whose turn it is, place the turn marker in front of you when it's your turn. Each player should do the same.

  2. What you do on your turn: On your turn, you move your outer pawn (your pawn on the gamepath), then challenge an opposing wrestler with your inner pawn (your pawn in the ring). If you win the challenge, you win a Pin peg. Three pins equal a match. Once you've earned a Match peg for your inner pawn, you switch your pawns' positions and try to win a match with your other pawn in the ring. The first player to win a match for both pawns wins the game.

Follow this sequence of actions on each of your turns:

    A. Roll and Move: Roll both of your dice, and move your outer pawn the number of spaces shown on either of the dice. Rules for outer pawn movement are as follows:

    • Always move your pawn along the gamepath in a clockwise direction.
    • Your pawn can pass over, or land on, another player's pawn without penalty or advantage.
    • If you roll doubles on your dice, land on a TAG TEAM space, or land on a space describing the Favorite Hold of your inner pawn, follow Rule 3 before you go on to the next step. NOTE: The Favorite Holds of your wrestlers are listed on their stat cards.

    B. Challenge an Opponent: Move your inner pawn into the center of the ring and challenge a wrestler of your choice who is also in the ring.

The player who manages the challenged wrestler then moves that pawn into the center of the ring with the challenger.

    C. Compare Your Strengths: Once the two wrestlers are in the center of the ring, the opposing players compare the numbers on the gamespace occupied by their outer pawns. For instance, your outer pawn might be on a space that shows a number 2, and your opponent's outer pawn might be on a space that shows a number 4. These are your strength numbers, which are added to your die roll during the challenge (see E, below).

How to Win the Game

The first player to win a match for each of his or her wrestlers wins the game. In the rare case of a tie, the tying players challenge each other, and the first player to score a pin wins the game.

Tournament Chess

For a longer game, play with the following additional rules:

  1. At the end of your turn, you may place your outer pawn into the ring and put your inner pawn in its place on the gamepath. Switch pawns as often as you want during the game.
  2. After a wrestler wins a match, he gets a red Match peg and a Favorite Hold peg.
  3. To win the game, you must win three matches with each of your two wrestlers.

D. Increase Your Strength (Optional): Before the challenge begins, you may want to increase your strength in the ring. You can do this by playing a Favorite Hold peg. This automatically increases the strength of your inner pawn to 5. Rules for playing a Favorite Hold peg are as follows:

  • The challenger always has the first option to play a Favorite Hold peg; the challenged player can then counter by also playing a Favorite Hold peg.
  • You can play a Favorite Hold peg only if there is one or more of them in the Favorite Hold section of the inner pawn's stat card.
  • To play a Favorite Hold peg, remove the peg from the stat card, and place it back in the tray.

STRATEGY HINT: Playing a Favorite Hold peg is always optional. If your pawn has a slightly lower strength than your opponent's, you may decide to take a risk rather than surrender a Favorite Hold peg, especially if it's your last one.

E. Roll and Wrestle: You and your opponent roll one die each, at the same time. Add the number on the gamespace occupied by your outer pawn, or 5 if you've increased your strength. Your opponent does the same. The player with the higher total wins the challenge and earns a Pin peg. NOTE: In case of a tie, roll again. You and your opponent then move your inner pawns back to their corners of the ring. The winner takes a white peg from the tray and places it in the Pin section of the winning wrestler's stat card.

  • Getting more Favorite Hold pegs: To replenish your supply of Favorite Hold pegs, take one from the tray whenever you:

    • Land on a TAG TEAM space by die roll. NOTE: The TAG TEAM space has an added significance in a 4-player game (see Rule 5).
    • Roll doubles on the dice during your turn.
    • Land on one of your inner pawn's Favorite Hold spaces by die roll.

When you get a Favorite Hold peg, place it in the Favorite Hold section of the stat card that matches your inner pawn. Since the card only holds three Favorite Hold pegs, you can never own more than three of them.

  • Winning a match: When your inner pawn has won three challenges, it means you've managed him to a match victory. Remove the three Pin pegs from the matching stat card, and place a red scoring peg in the Match section of the card. Then switch your inner and outer pawns' positions, and the game continues as you try to win a match with your new inner pawn.

  • Special tag team rule for 4-player game: In a 4-player game, when your outer pawn lands on a TAG TEAM space, take a Favorite Hold peg, then choose another player's inner pawn for a tag team partner. The two pawns remaining in the ring then become the opposing tag team.

Each player calculates the strength of his or her inner pawn as described in Rule 2C. Tag team partners add their individual strength numbers for a total tag team strength number. Beginning with the player whose turn it is, each of the four players then has a chance to increase strength by playing a Favorite Hold peg. If necessary, strength numbers are then recalculated.

To battle, each player rolls one die. Tag team partners total their die rolls and add their total strength numbers. The team with the higher total wins a Pin peg for each partner.
