Setup

Place the Clam near the board with the top shell atop the bottom shell so that the mouth is shut and no numbers are revealed.

Randomly shuffle all 18 Pearls face down around the Clam.

How the Clam Opens

Whenever anyone rolls the pool, slide the top shell open a number of notches equal to the number of dice that land in a seashell zone.

If the Clam ever opens enough to reveal the ! symbol, it immediately snaps shut (so that no numbers are revealed) and stays shut until the next time the pool is rolled.

Otherwise, it stays open, and the highest revealed number is the Clam's value.

For example, if the Clam was showing a 1 and three dice landed in seashell zones, the Clam would open three notches wider to reveal the 4.

Stealing Pearls

On your turn, instead of moving a diver to the Beach or a Wreck, you may move one to the Clam. (You still take a die from the reef; its number doesn't matter.) Choose a face-down Pearl, and flip it over.

  • If the Pearl's value is equal to or less than the Clam's value, you get to keep the Pearl! The clam snaps shut again and your diver returns to you (off board).
  • If the Pearl's value is greater than the Clam's value or you revealed a ! symbol, the Clam snaps shut and you get nothing! Return the Pearl face down to the table, shuffle all remaining Pearls, and your diver returns to you (off board).

For example, if the Clam's value is 4, you get to keep your Pearl if you flip a 1, 2, 3, or 4. If you flip a 5 or a !... too bad.. just be thankful you got your fingers back!

End of the Game

At the end of the game, add the coin value of the Pearls you've collected to your score!
