Contents of the Box
- 1 information card about Farplace Animal Rescue.
- 1 rules card.
- 14 days of the week cards.
- 39 play cards.
Set Up
- Lay out the 7 days of the week cards in front of each player from Monday to Sunday.
- The 7 days in front of each player is known as their board.
- If more than 2 players are playing, you will need more decks.
- Shuffle the play cards thoroughly, using 1 deck for 2 players, more if you have more players.
- Deal 5 play cards to each player.
Playing the Game
- The player who last patted a dog goes first.
- Each turn, you take one action:
- Draw a card OR
- Play a card
- The card is drawn from the top of the deck. If the deck runs out, shuffle the discards and keep going.
Playing a Card
- The rules are shown on each card.
- A card is USUALLY played on your own board and on an empty day.
- Only when a card says ON ANY BOARD can it also be played on another player's board.
- Only when a card says ON TOP OF is it played on top of another card. When it says this, the card MUST be placed on top of another card, covering over its score. If it does not say ON TOP OF, then it must be placed on an eligible empty day.
- The scores are on the top of each card, showing on both sides so both left-handed and right-handed players can look at their cards easily.
- There is no hand limit.
Game End
- The game ends when one player has a dog on every day of the week.
- You then add up the scores to see who wins.
- In the event of a tie, play again to determine a winner as this is a very short game.
The Cards
Labrador
A one-point dog. If you have a card saying SWAP YOUR X DAY DOG(S) WITH ANOTHER DOG(S) ON THE SAME DAY, you may like to play a low scoring dog like the labrador on that day in the hope on a future turn you may be able to swap this 1 scoring dog with a higher scoring dog. It is also great for finishing off the game as it can be played anywhere.
Mixed Breed
A four-point dog also playable anywhere. A very strong card as a result. As a rescue centre, we had to make the cross breed this strong as we love them so much.
German Shepherd
A zero-point dog that can be placed on top of any dog on any board. You can use it to cancel down a high-scoring dog on an opponent's board, or even on your own board if you then want to swap that pile of dogs later on to give them a zero scoring day, if you have the right card. Cosy rugs, for example, could send the dog, once placed, to an opponent.
French Bulldog
A two-point dog that is very similar to the German Shepherd. Because of its two points, you may sometimes want to place on top of the German Shepherd to get some points on this day.
Dalmation
A four-point dog that must be placed on the adjacent day to the left of any dog. Usually, this will be placed on your board, unless you are so far ahead, placing it to finish an opponent's board triggers your victory.
Collie
A three-point dog that must be placed on Thursday, Friday or Saturday on your own board.
Yorkshire Terrier
This three-point card can be placed on an empty day on any board, your own or an opponent's, and move the adjacent top dog to an empty space on any board. You could use this to move a German Shepherd from your board to an opponent's, or to steal a good card from an opponent if worth more than three points. You could also use it to just move a dog around your board to steal a particular dog.
Westie
This six-point dog is a very strong dog to play last to finish the game. It can only be played when your other six days are full, but it can give you an unexpected victory when an opponent is only a few points ahead.
Poodle
A three-point dog that can only be played on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday on your own board.
Great Dane
A seven-point dog, the highest scoring dog. Cannot be placed if any dog are adjacent when first played.
Staffie
A four-point dog that can only be placed on a Sunday on your own board.
Dachshund
A four-point dog that can only be placed on any board, immediately adjacent to another dog and placed to its right. May be used on an opponent's board, but usually only if you are well ahead and this triggers end game and your victory.
St Bernard
A six-point dog that can be played on top of a dog on your own board and moves just the top dog to an empty space of an opponent. Can give them the German Shepherd or a low scoring dog, like the labrador.
Chihuahua
A five-point dog that can be played anywhere on your own board not adjacent to a German Shepherd, Great Dane or St Bernard.
Fred's Dog Treats
Removes a top dog from any board. Can remove a low scoring dog from your own board or a high scoring dog from your opponent. Can remove the German Shepherd, revealing your higher scoring dog below. The card is put on the discard pile along with the removed dog.
Groomers
Swaps your Sunday dog(s) with someone else's Sunday dog(s). Moves the whole stack of dogs if more than one is there, so can be used to gain a stack of dogs and if you have other cards to reveal the higher scoring ones below. Typically, you will play a low scoring dog on Sunday and hope your opponent then places a higher one here, to make this card work for you. The card is put on the discard pile after swapping a dog.
Muddy Paws
Works the same as Groomers, but for Wednesday. The card is put on the discard pile after swapping a dog.
Zoomies
Works the same as Groomers but for Monday. The card is put on the discard pile after swapping a dog.
Enrichment Toys
Works the same as Groomers, but for Friday. The card is put on the discard pile after swapping a dog.
Stuffed Toys
Works the same as Groomers, but you can choose which day to swap. The card is put on the discard pile after swapping a dog.
Cosy Rugs
Moves a top dog to an empty space on someone else's board. A good card to get rid of the German Shepherd. The card is put on the discard pile after taking the action.
Walkies
Moves a top dog from any board to an empty space on your own board. Can move one of your dogs to free up a particular day or can steal a strong dog from an opponent. The card is put on the discard pile after taking the action.
