Components and Overview
The game contains 1 rulebook and 4 sets of 20 playing cards each, one set per crest.
- Players: 2 to 4
- Age: from 4 years
- Playing time: approx. 10 minutes
Card Anatomy
The card front shows the following elements, as labelled on the rulebook's card diagram:
- Crest (Wappen): each card carries one of four crests. The four crests are a red stag, a brown hand holding wheat, a green hop cone, and a silver tree. Each player receives the 20 cards of one crest.
- Number (Nummer): the number of the card, printed in the upper right corner (the diagram shows card 3).
- Follow-up card (Folgekarte): labelled on the diagram with a picture. The rulebook does not explain this element in the text.
- Special function (Spezialfunktion): an icon shown on certain cards. Cards 3, 5, 7 and 10 have special functions, described under Special Cards below.
The back of each card shows the crest of its set on a forest background.
Setup
Each player receives 20 cards of the same crest and shuffles them thoroughly. He then lays them out in front of him in a card field, so that 10 card slots (Kartenplätze) are formed, each consisting of two cards stacked on top of each other with their backs facing up.
A discard pile (Ablagestapel) is placed in the middle of the table. New discard piles are started during play, as described below.
Sequence of Play
Goal of the game: The player who first places all of his cards in the middle of the table wins.
Round 1: The first player turns over two card slots and looks at the cards. If he finds a card with the number 1, he must start a new discard pile in the middle of the table with it. The player may place all revealed cards onto one or more discard piles in ascending number order. Cards that cannot be placed in ascending number order must be turned face down and returned to his own card slots. In doing so the order of the cards may be changed. The next player then begins his first turn and turns over two card slots.
Round 2 and following rounds: In all following rounds each player may only turn over one card slot of his choice, regardless of how many cards that card slot contains.
Special moves (Sonderzüge): If a player knows the position of a matching top card in his card field, he may at any time call out loudly "Ich weiß es, ich weiß es!" ("I know it, I know it!") to announce it, even if it is not his turn. Doing so, he may take the top card of the relevant card slot and place it face down on the matching discard pile. It is possible to announce further special moves in ascending number order on that card, and to place further cards face down in this way.
If several players call "Ich weiß es, ich weiß es!" at the same time for the same card number on the same discard pile, only the player who placed that card first carries out the special move. The other players take their cards face down back.
The player then turns his card over.
- If the card is correct, it may stay where it is, and further special-move cards are turned over, or the next player begins his regular turn.
- If the player has placed the wrong card, he must return the wrong card face down to its original card slot. As a penalty he chooses one player, who must give him any one of his own cards without looking at it. He places this card face down on the card slot of the wrong card. If further special-move cards were placed face down on the wrong card, those players take their cards face down back.
Afterwards further special moves may be carried out, or the next player begins his regular turn.
Special Cards
As soon as a player places one or more special cards, either regularly or through a special move, the special function is carried out. The other players wait until all special functions have been carried out. Cards that have already been placed face down through a special move cannot be affected by a special function.
Only after the special function has been carried out may special moves be announced again or further face-down special-move cards be turned over.
Card 3 - "Pass a card" (Eine Karte abgeben): The player may place one of his own cards face down on any other player. That player must place the card face down on one of his own card slots of his choice.
Card 5 - "Mix four cards" (Vier Karten mischen): The player may mix four arbitrary cards of another player. The cards may not be looked at during this. They must be returned to four different card slots, or to empty card-slot positions, of that player.
Card 7 - "Swap card slots" (Kartenplatz tauschen): The player may swap any one of his own card slots face down with any card slot of another player. It does not matter how many cards each of the card slots consists of.
Card 10 - "Look" (Schau nach): All players may simultaneously turn over one card from their own card field and look at it, for themselves only. During this, a player may immediately call "Ich weiß es, ich weiß es!" and make a special move.
