When do I place a Duet token, and when not?
The rulebook's Duet box lists exactly these cases.

You place one whenever you play a bird: by the Play a Bird action, by a power that plays a bird, or by playing a bird on top of another or into a space a bird vacated. You do not place one when a bird is merely moved (for example onto your board from a neighbour's).
