Goal of the Game

The goal of the game is to get rid of the dirty cutlery and dishes after a meal.

Contents

24 double-sided pictures:

  • 4 bowls of soup
  • 4 main courses
  • 4 drinks
  • 4 desserts
  • 4 forks
  • 4 knives

Setup

Sort the pictures into groups by type: knives separately, forks separately, and so on. Place the sorted pieces clean side up and mix thoroughly within each group.

Each player receives one picture of each type. Without checking the back or showing it to the other players, each player places them in front of themselves. The arrangement should always be the same, in this order: in the first row, dessert, main course, drinks; in the second row, forks, soup, knives.

The printed rules do not say how the pictures are dealt with 2 or 3 players, when not every picture is dealt out. The rulebook as printed does not address this case.

Play

The player who most recently washed the dishes starts the game. Play then continues clockwise.

On his or her turn, a player may make one of two possible moves:

  • turn any one of their own pictures from the clean side to the dirty side, or
  • get rid of a dirty piece of tableware (that is, one turned over earlier) by placing it on another dirty piece of tableware of the same type (for example drinks on drinks) or of the same colour (for example red on red).

Pictures may be placed both on your own pictures and on the pictures of the other players. Only the picture on top of a stack is taken into account. When you move a dish that is on top of a stack of other dishes, you move the whole stack at once.

Example

(Diagram: Ania's pictures and Krzyś's pictures, shown as a layout.)

Ania makes her move. She may turn over one of her own pictures to the dirty side: dessert, soup or knives. Instead, she may also use one of the dirty pictures and place it on another picture:

  • drinks may be placed on: Krzyś's drinks, Krzyś's soup, or her own forks;
  • main course may be placed only on Krzyś's dessert;
  • forks may be placed on her own drinks or on Krzyś's soup.

End of the Game

The game ends when none of the players can make a move any more. The player with the most dishes loses and must wash up after the meal!
