Introduction
Who can do the best sound imitation? Players take turns being the imitator while the others listen carefully and try to guess the image the imitator is trying to turn into a sound.
Object of the Game
Be the fastest to identify as many of your opponents' sounds as possible to win the maximum number of points!
Setup
- Shuffle the Image cards and give 3 to each player.
- Players place the cards in front of them: this is their scoring cards and will only be used as points.
- Make a pile with the rest of the Image cards and place them in the middle of all the players.
- Shuffle the 20 Sequence cards together and place them in a pile, face down next to the Image cards.
How to Play
The player with the loudest voice will be the Imitator (the player who imitates the sounds) for the first turn. They will use a Sequence card to guide them on which sound to make and when during the 5 steps of their turn. Their Sequence card is a secret card nobody else should see!
First Turn
- The Imitator takes 4 Image cards from the pile and places them next to each other in a row, facing any direction. This is the play area.
Next, the Imitator takes a Sequence card and looks at it in secret to find the location of the first card they need to sound out.
Note: the Imitator will use their position as a reference to look at the play area and to read the Sequence card.
A Sequence card shows the location of the Image cards in the play area, and the order of the 5 images the Imitator is going to sound out loud on their turn. We will call "steps" the 5 times the Imitator will sound out an image: "1st" is the location of the image to guess in the 1st step, "2nd" is the location of the image to guess in the 2nd step, and so on.
Note: The cards get replenished on the table after each step so a Sequence card may show two different numbers in the same location.
Example: 1st and 3rd are written in one location indicating that the image placed in this location in the 1st step will be sound out by the imitator first, then replenished. Later on in the 3rd step, they will sound out the new image located in this same location.
Making a Sound
- The Imitator imitates the sound of the image indicated as "1st" and tries to get the other players to guess which image they are imitating. They cannot mime or speak.
Example: on this Sequence card, "1st" indicates that the picture to be guessed by all the players in step 1 is the apple. The Imitator therefore chooses to make the sound effect: "SCROUTCH! SCROUTCH!"
- All the other players race to place their hand on the correct card as quickly as possible. Be careful, once you have put your hand on a card, you cannot change to another.
Announcing the Answer
- As soon as all players have placed their hand on an image, the Imitator tells them which card was correct:
If one or more players have put their hand on the right card, then the person who did it the quickest (and whose hand is therefore underneath the others) wins the card and adds it to their scoring cards.
Players who have put their hand after the winner or on the wrong card win nothing.
If no one has put their hand on the right card, the Imitator loses one of their scoring cards and discards it in the game box. The Image card for this step is placed back in the box.
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Steps
- The Imitator takes two new Image cards from the pile and places one on the empty space (the card that was just guessed or discarded), and the second on the second line of cards as shown, to expand the playing area.
The printed diagram shows where the new cards are added: one card is added before Step 2 (on the second line), one before Step 3, one before Step 4 and one before Step 5.
- The Imitator repeats the Making a Sound and the Announcing the Answer phases for each card to be guessed until the end of the 5th step.
New Turn
- At the end of the Imitator's turn, the Sequence card and the Image cards from the play area are discarded in the box.
- The person to the left of the Imitator becomes the new Imitator and starts their turn, which will include the 5 steps described above.
- Players take turns being the Imitator until the end of the game.
End of the Game
The game ends once everyone has been the Imitator once.
The player who has the most scoring cards wins the game and is the best Imitator for the day.
In the event of a tie, the players who are tied share the victory.
