Components
- 45 "EXPO" cards with themes on the back and an exhibition city on the back
- 8 role cards "JE SUIS UN..." (6 Artists and 2 Forgers)
- 6 pencils
- 1 pad of sheets
- 1 "Paris est Ludique" card
- 1 rulebook
Goal of the Game
Score more points than the other players.
Setup
Take as many role cards as there are players:
- With 3 to 6 players, take one Forger card and fill the rest with Artist cards.
- With 7 to 8 players, take two Forger cards and fill the rest with Artist cards.
Give each player a sheet and a pencil. With 7 or 8 players you will need extra pencils.
Shuffle the "EXPO" cards and place them as a pile in the middle of the table with the exhibition cities on top (yes, the backs are different and must be mixed!).
One player writes the scores on a separate sheet.
For Your First Games
-
Give each player a role card, face up. It determines that player's role for the round.
- The Artists will try to be as original as possible.
- The Forger(s) will try not to be.
-
Turn over the first "EXPO" card on the pile, face up. The new city revealed on top of the pile determines the line to read: play the round with the matching theme.
Example: an exhibition in Sydney (printed "Sidney" in the French text) on the theme "Pointy objects".
If, by common agreement, the players are not inspired by a theme, feel free to skip to the next one!
-
All players simultaneously and secretly make three drawings relating to the theme on their sheet. Each time a player, whatever their role, has finished their three drawings, they shout "What the fake!"
As soon as the second-to-last player has finished their three works, the round ends. The last player must immediately stop drawing.
-
All players then display their drawings, and then, in turn, each Artist names their drawings.
For each drawing, the Artist scores:
- If it is unique (no other player made the same one): 1 point.
- If one or more other players made the same one: 0 points.
- In all cases, if it is not judged "valid": 0 points.
A DRAWING IS VALID IF:
- It respects the theme of the exhibition.
- The drawing is recognisable by the other players.
The Artist may defend their work, but in case of doubt the other players vote and may (kindly) exclude a drawing judged too avant-garde!
Each Artist thus scores from 0 to 3 points.
Once all the Artists have counted their points, each Forger adds up their points. For each of their three drawings, a Forger scores:
- 0 points if no Artist made the same drawing.
- 1 point if at least one Artist (not a Forger) made the same drawing.
Scores are recorded on a separate sheet.
- Each player passes their role to the player on their left. Then the top "EXPO" card is turned over and a new round begins on the new theme indicated by the city on top of the pile.
End of the Game
The game ends when every player has been a Forger once. The player with the most points is the winner!
Next Games
For more suspense during the game, you may deal the roles face down. Each player looks at their role before drawing, then reveals it just before the points are counted.
In this variant the game lasts a number of rounds equal to the number of players.
