Can I leave empty spaces or skip numbers in a zone?

Yes. Within a zone you may leave as many empty spaces as you like between two numbered spaces and fill them in later, as long as numbers stay in ascending order. You may also skip values, for example writing an 8 right after a 6. The same number can never appear twice in one zone.
