Components

Game board, 4 detectives + plastic stands, 16 Location tiles, 8 Hazard discs, 24 WePhone tiles, 12 Evidence tiles.

Setup

  • Each player chooses a detective and places it on the house with a matching colour in the corners of the board.
  • Shuffle the Location tiles and place one face up on each of the location spaces on the board. Location tiles include the places that detectives may need to visit.
  • Place the Hazard discs face up next to the board. Hazard discs include fire, car accident, angry dog attack, and lock malfunction.
  • Shuffle the WePhone tiles and place the pile face down next to the board.
  • Shuffle the Evidence tiles and deal them equally to all players. Each player places their Evidence tiles face up in front of them. These are the pieces of evidence you need to find. Evidence tiles also include people you need to find.
  • The player whose birthday is coming up next starts the game.

How to Play

  1. On your turn, draw a WePhone tile and follow the instructions. Move 5 spaces unless directed otherwise on the WePhone tile.
  2. Place the WePhone tile with an unfinished task in front of you. Place any used WePhone tiles in a discard pile. Note that you can pass WePhone tasks to other players, if the team decides so. See WePhone tiles.
  3. Start gathering the evidence assigned to you as well as completing any WePhone tasks. Move your detective to a location with the piece of evidence or the person you are looking for – there can be more than one place to find it. You can pick up more than one piece of evidence at a time.
  4. The entrance to a location is signified by a white arrow. When you land on the desired location, place that Evidence tile in its designated spot in the center of the board. Note: You can continue your turn if you have not used all of your steps.
  5. Play continues clock-wise.
  6. You can help your teammates collect their evidence once you have collected all of yours. On your turn, take an Evidence tile from another player, place it in front of you and start working to collect it.
  7. The detectives win if they complete their tasks and find all the evidence before all WePhone tiles have been played. If some evidence is still missing when the last round ends, the criminal walks free! You can try again!

WePhone Tiles

Each WePhone tile represents one hour of investigation time and when the last WePhone tile has been played, time is up and the last round is played.

WePhone tiles report different events that will affect your game. The team decides which player is assigned the task given in the message. Play continues in the usual clock-wise order even if tasks were passed on to other players.

  • Sometimes the team will have to redo something they had already completed. Take the Evidence tile from the board and place it in front of the player assigned with the task. If the team haven't completed the task yet before reading the WePhone message, the tile has no effect.
  • Sometimes the WePhone tiles will report a hazard. Place lock malfunction, fire and angry dog attack discs on the given location. Place car accident discs on the street in front of the location. Car accidents block the street. Players cannot collect evidence at a location with a hazard. If a hazard is placed on a space occupied by a player, that player moves one step out of danger.
    • The WePhone message will indicate where you should go to clear the hazard. Remove the hazard disc from the board once the hazard is cleared. Two of the same hazards can be removed by moving to the designated location. The team is not required to clear a hazard to win.
  • If your magnifying glass or sunglasses have been stolen, you must personally move to the Bikers' Den to retrieve your possessions before you can collect any more evidence.
  • When the message calls for a meeting, all players immediately move to the café. All players then move 8 steps from there before the start of the next turn, collecting evidence along the way if they can.

Alternate Play

If you think your investigation skills need more of a challenge, try a smaller number of WePhone tiles – the fewer the more difficult it gets! Use an agreed number of tiles. Play is the same as above. For an extreme challenge, use all 24 WePhone tiles but limit the collection of evidence to one item per turn.
