Components

  • 1 game board (6 pieces)
  • 15 totems
  • 72 tokens
  • 1 cloth bag
  • 1 rulebook

Setup

Assemble the game board (Figure 1). Each player chooses three totems of the same colour. If there are fewer than 5 players, leave the unused totems in the box. Carefully punch the tokens out of the sheets and put them into the bag.

There are two kinds of tokens:

  • Symbol tokens: these show six different symbols: owl, sorcerer, jackal, and others.
  • Silver coins: some coins have no value, and others are worth 1, 2, 3 or 5 points.

Object of the Game

Players try to acquire the largest possible share of the treasure. Each player gains shares of the treasure by placing totems on the board, which marks the shares they have acquired.

How to Play

The youngest player begins, and play proceeds clockwise.

On your turn, draw a token from the bag. There are two cases:

  • If you draw a symbol token: place it on one of the identical symbols shown on the game board (Figure 2). You must then decide whether to place one of your totems on that token to acquire that treasure share permanently (Figure 3). If you decide not to do so at this time, you will not be able to do it later. All points scored on that treasure share will be awarded to you, or shared with one or more other players if they also have totems on that treasure share (depending on the scoring rule you choose). Players may only place totems on symbol tokens that they have drawn themselves.
  • If you draw a silver coin: place it on the treasure share you are interested in, on one of the 5 available spaces. If all the spaces of that treasure share are occupied, place your coin on other treasure shares.

Think carefully, because you have only 3 totems for the whole game, and totems not used by the end of the game cannot be taken into account.

Notes:

  • Once a token has been placed on the game board, it may not be moved for the rest of the game.
  • Whenever possible, you must always place a silver coin on a treasure share that has at least 1 totem.

End of the Game and Scoring

The game ends when all the silver coin spaces are occupied. You can then count each player's points.

Each player who has a totem of their colour on a treasure share receives the value of the silver coins on that share. If a player has more than one totem on that share, they receive the value of the silver coins occupying the spaces, multiplied by the number of totems.

For example, if a player has 2 totems on a treasure share worth 4 points, their score is: 2 totems x 4 points = 8 points (Figure 4).

Advanced Version

In this version, the total points of each treasure share are divided by the number of players who have a totem on that share.

For example, a treasure share is worth 9 points and two players are present on it: one player has 1 totem and the other player has 2 totems.

  • The score of the player who placed 1 totem will be: 9 points / 3 totems = 3 points.
  • The score of the player who placed 2 totems will be: (9 points / 3 totems) x 2 totems = 6 points.

If you have 2 or 3 of your totems on the same treasure share, you proceed in the same way.

The Winner

The player with the most points wins the game.
