Components

  • 1 engraved board
  • 8 marbles for player one
  • 8 marbles for player two

Each player has 8 marbles of their color. They are placed on the divots at the intersections between the lines.

Setup

Set up the game by placing the marbles in their starting position, arranged symmetrically around the board so that each player's 8 marbles occupy the intersections nearest their own edge of the board.

Choose a player to go first in however manner you desire. Players then take alternate turns until one player wins.

How to Play

On your turn you must move one of your marbles at least one space.

A marble can move as far as you want along the line it is currently on, without making a turn.

A marble cannot move through, or onto the same space as, another marble.

A marble that travels off the edge of the board appears and continues traveling from the opposite side, along the same line.

If any one of your marbles cannot be moved at the beginning of your turn, you lose the game.

Marbles can be trapped anywhere on the board, including at the edge of the board.

Tactics

Fork your opponent by threatening two of their pieces at once.

Force your opponent to compromise one of their pieces by threatening another.

End of Game

The game ends the moment a player has a marble that cannot legally be moved at the start of their turn. That player loses; their opponent wins.

Print-and-Play

The game can be tried out by printing an image of the board and playing with a set of chess pawns (or any two sets of 8 like tokens) in place of the marbles.

Notes

Source note: this transcription follows the rules text published by designer Khanat Sadomwattana on the game's Kickstarter campaign page ("wana (罠)"), which is the fullest official description of the rules publicly available for this self-published title. Board Game Geek lists only an Italian-language rules file for Wana; no separate English-language rulebook PDF has been published.
