Setup

Sort the game cards by type. You now have three decks: the Curse Cards deck (in which there will be only the cards with the yellow back), the Permanent Curse Cards Deck (red back) and the Artefact Cards Deck (blue back). Every player takes a Curse Card with a Cost of 2 Ingredients and adds it to his/her hand. Shuffle every single deck and put them on the centre of the table. Every player chooses a Sphere and puts it on the "0" mark, on the Scorekeeper. The unluckiest Player takes the Voodoo Doll. Shall the black magic contest begin! The first sorcerer who scores 11 points will win!

How to Play

Each player takes his or her turn in clockwise order. A player's turn is made up of three phases:

  1. Preparing the Ingredients Bag
  2. Casting Curses and Other Actions
  3. Passing the Voodoo Doll

1. Preparing the Ingredients Bag

Roll all the dice. If you don't like the result, you can discard a die in order to re-roll any number of them. You can do as many re-rolls as you like, but you have to discard a die every time. When you are satisfied with the result, or when only a die remains, it's time to act!

2. Casting Curses and Other Actions

You can perform one or more actions by using dice from your bag. You can perform the same action multiple times. For example, you can Draw a Curse twice in a single turn, or Draw a Curse and an Artefact. The allowed actions are:

Draw a Curse Cost: 2 Ingredient Dice Discard any 2 dice from your bag: draw a card from the Curse Cards Deck and add it to your hands.

Draw an Artefact Cost: Ingredient Dice Discard any 2 dice from your bag: draw a card from the Artefact Cards Deck and add it to your hands.

Use an Artefact Cost: No Cost Discard 1 Artefact Card from your hands (put it on the bottom of the Artefacts Cards Deck) to apply the effects that the card describes. Notice: some Artefacts could be playable only during certain game moments. Always read carefully the text of the card.

Cast a Curse Cost: The Ingredients Dice requested by the card itself In order to cast a Curse, you must:

  • Choose a Curse Card;
  • Discard the requested Ingredients Dice from your bag;
  • Declare the target of the curse by telling its name or by gestures;
  • Utter the Curse Card name and read its effect aloud;
  • Put the card in front of you, so that other players can see it;
  • Gain a number of points equal to the score on the lowest section of the Curse Card played. The cursed player receives the Target Card from the player who owns it.

From now on, the Curse victim must do the action described by the card, following the instructions on it. Notice: It is not possible to cast a Curse on a player who already owns the Target Card.

A game example: Giorgio rolls the dice; he gets 2 Pumpkins, 2 Ghost Mousse and 1 Crow Foot (step 1). He cannot cast Curses! He decides to reroll the dice: he discards one but he puts a Pumpkin aside. Now he gets a Skull, a Ghost Mousse and a Bat Wing. He likes the result, so he decides on cursing Francesca by playing "Evvivam". Then he discards the remaining 2 dice to draw an Artefact (step 2).

3. Passing the Voodoo Doll

Now, your turn is over. Pass the doll to the next player clockwise. However, do not forget to apply the effects of ongoing Curses, before passing the Voodoo Doll!

The Big Skull

On the scorekeeper, there are 3 Big Skulls. When you reach or go beyond one of them, you will be the victim of a Permanent Curse! Draw a card from the Permanent Curse Deck (the red ones) and put it in front of you. From now on, you must follow whatever condition the Card imposes or suffer the consequences! If the Permanent Curses Deck runs out, you do not receive any Permanent Curse!

An Extra Little Bit!

In addition to the required Ingredients, some Curses show an asterisk. In order to satisfy the request, you can use any Ingredient you like.

Interrupting Curses

During the game, Curses victims could, willingly or by accident, interrupt the Curses cast upon them. For example, they could forget to cluck like a chicken before rolling the dice, or they could feel the urge to get up from the ground to go to the bathroom. When a victim interrupts a Curse, the player who cast it can report the fact, name the interrupted Curse and gain as many points as written on the upper section of the Curse Card. The Curse will be discarded (put it on the Curse Card Deck bottom). It will be not active anymore for the rest of the game, unless it is drawn and played again. Permanent Curses are never discarded: if a player interrupts a Permanent Curse, just apply the described effects.

When Do I Suffer from a Curse?

On every Curse Card description, you can read the exact moment during which the player must perform the action in order to avoid the Curse interruption. If the card doesn't specify this condition, the victim must apply the Curse in every moment for the rest of the game.

For example, the "Fay the Good" Curse forces the victim to play all the game with his arms crossed. Otherwise, the Curse is interrupted.

"Before Rolling Dice" - Before Rolling Dice during the 1° phase (not at every reroll).

"Before Passing the Voodoo Doll" - Before the Voodoo doll pass to the next player.

Card Notes

Ahia Eldit and Hakuna Matata These Curses afflict all the adversaries. When any player stops performing the described action, these Curses will be interrupted.

Smellin' Doll When you play "Smellin' Doll", don't discard the dice you use from the adversary's Ingredient Bag. You can use "Smellin' Doll" in the very moment your adversary completes his Ingredient Bag and he decides not to reroll the dice.
