- 91 ingredient cards (with ingredients on both sides)
- 6 legend cards
- 1 rulebook
Setup
Shuffle the ingredient cards and place one ingredient card in the middle of the table, within everyone's reach. This is the Voodoo pile.
Deal the remaining ingredient cards evenly among the players:
- 2 players = 45 ingredient cards
- 3 players = 30 ingredient cards
- 4 players = 22 ingredient cards
- 5 players = 18 ingredient cards
- 6 players = 15 ingredient cards
Each player's own ingredient cards form his own pile. Each player then takes 3 ingredient cards from his own pile into his hand. Finally, each player receives one legend card. Unused ingredient cards and legend cards are returned to the box.
Aim of the Game
The first player who has no ingredient cards left wins the round. The player who has the fewest points after 3 rounds wins the game.
Ingredient Cards
As shown on the legend card, there are 5 different ingredients (voodoo doll, mask, magic potion, amulet, top hat) and 5 different colours (red, yellow, green, blue, purple). On each side of an ingredient card only 4 different ingredients and 4 different colours are shown. Every ingredient card therefore lacks one particular combination of ingredient and colour!
Course of Play
The youngest player calls out "Voodoo Mania!" Then everyone plays at the same time and as quickly as possible! First, each player must work out for himself which combination is missing from the top card of the Voodoo pile.
There are then 2 options:
-
Each player looks through his 3 hand cards for the sought combination. Both the front and the back of the hand cards may be looked at! As soon as a player has found the sought combination on one of his hand cards, he lays this ingredient card on the Voodoo pile and calls out the sought combination. He then quickly takes the top ingredient card from his own pile into his hand. The game continues without any pause. A new combination is now sought, depending on which ingredient and which colour are now missing from the top ingredient card of the Voodoo pile.
Example: The top ingredient card of the Voodoo pile is missing the magic potion in purple. The sought combination is therefore the purple magic potion, as Ole has in his hand for example. If Ole now lays his ingredient card on the Voodoo pile, he calls out loudly "purple magic potion!" Afterwards, all players must look for an ingredient card with a green mask.
-
Instead of searching for the missing combination, a player may also lay down an ingredient card that is missing the same combination as the top ingredient card of the Voodoo pile! This player calls out loudly "Voodoo!" Play stops immediately and all players lay their hand cards in front of them. Apart from the Voodoo player, every player must now draw an ingredient card from the bottom of the Voodoo pile and place it under his own pile. The player to the left of the Voodoo player starts.
ATTENTION: The top ingredient card of the Voodoo pile is taboo and must remain in the middle of the table! If there are not enough ingredient cards in the Voodoo pile, as many players as possible draw an ingredient card. All other players have been lucky. Afterwards, all players pick up their hand cards again, the Voodoo player calls out "Voodoo Mania!" and the game continues.
Example: The top ingredient card of the Voodoo pile is missing the purple magic potion. Lea lays an ingredient card on the Voodoo pile that is also missing a purple magic potion and calls out "Voodoo!" Now first Ole and then Nils must draw the bottom ingredient card from the Voodoo pile and place it under their own pile.
Whoever cannot find the sought or missing combination among his 3 hand cards may, as often as he likes, place one of his own hand cards under his own pile and, in return, take the top ingredient card from his own pile into his hand.
ATTENTION: A player must never have more than 3 hand cards!
End of a Round
A round ends as soon as a player has no ingredient cards left in his hand or in his own pile.
Scoring
For each ingredient card in a player's hand and in his own pile, 1 point is recorded for the following rounds.
Afterwards, all cards are shuffled again and dealt out to the players as described above. Then a new round begins.
End of the Game
The game ends after 3 rounds. The player with the fewest points wins. In the event of a tie, there are several winners.
Variant
Of course, more or fewer rounds can also be played.
