Components
- 20 Ploy Cards
- 4 Building Cards
- 4 Troop Cards
- 8 Command Cards
- 4 Wonder Cards
- 2 Agent Cards
Game Overview
Follow the rules of the base game, Volfyirion or Volfyirion Guilds.
This expansion adds Ploy cards to the game. Ploy cards are a new card type with exciting abilities. A Ploy card carries an asymmetric, secret strategy that lets you defeat your opponent by changing the rules of the base game under certain conditions.
Remember that the card text can override the standard rules at any time!
The Ploy expansion can be played with either the base game Volfyirion or Volfyirion Guilds, in 1 vs. 1 mode. For an even bigger challenge you can combine it with an additional expansion, but the sheet recommends never combining more than 2 expansions.
Ploy Cards
Each Ploy card shows its card type, its card name, its conditions and its triggered effect.
- Card Type
- Card Name

Ploy cards make the game an asymmetric experience. Ploy cards stay face down until their owner reveals them or an effect forces them to be revealed.
Setup
The sheet states that the following extends the rules of Volfyirion Guilds:
- Shuffle the Troop, Building and Command Cards of this expansion into the Asset Deck of the base game.
- Shuffle all Wonder Cards of this expansion into the Wonder Deck of the base game.
- Shuffle all Ploy cards and form the Ploy Deck. Place it next to the Asset Deck.
NOTE: If you play the Ploy expansion with Volfyirion, you may shuffle the Ploy cards of Volfyirion into the Ploy cards of this expansion.
Translator's note: the sheet's German "Aktionsdeck" is rendered here as "Asset Deck", the name the base rulebook uses for the same deck of Troop, Building, Agent and Command Cards.
Turn Sequence
-
The starting player draws 6 Ploy cards and places them face up in 2 rows of 3 cards each. The 2nd player then chooses one of these rows; the starting player receives the remaining row.
-
Afterwards, each player secretly chooses 2 of their 3 Ploy cards and places them face down on top of the Vault (see the illustration in the sheet). This area is the Ploy Zone. The remaining 2 Ploy cards go back into the game box.
-
You may never have more than 3 Ploy cards. If you receive a new one while you already have 3, you must first remove one of your 3 Ploy cards from the game.
Remember that Ploy cards stay face down and hidden from your opponent until certain requirements are met!
New Action
Play a Ploy Card
Whenever the conditions of a Ploy card are met, you may play it. Reveal the card (if it has not already been revealed for some reason) and resolve its effect. This is possible even when your opponent is the active player!
Afterwards, the Ploy card is removed from the game.
