The Cards

Before starting to play, have a good look at the cards; some of them show smaller animals (mouse, frog, rabbit, beaver) pictured entirely. Other cards show only partial pictures of the larger animals. When they are assembled correctly, an entire animal may be seen!

The original booklet illustrates this with captioned pictures labelled "one card animal", "two card animal", "three card animal" (two pictures) and "four card animal". The pictures are not reproduced here.

Aim of the three games is to collect as many entire animals as possible.

1. Chaos in the Zoo

Who with a good memory will find the most animals and bring the zoo to order? A tricky memory game for sly memory artists.

Preparation of the Game

Get the zookeepers ready. Search for the three cards with the snake and put them next to the zookeeper. The remaining cards are covered, mixed and arranged next to each other on the table.

How to Play

Usually, the most chaotic place in the zoo is the monkey house. Therefore the player who most recently has seen a monkey, starts the game. If you can't agree, the oldest player starts.

Uncover Any Card

You can continue uncovering as long as all the cards you uncover are part of the same animal.

  • You have uncovered cards of different animals? Pity, then your turn is over. Cover all the cards again.
  • An animal is completed? Well done! As a reward you take all the cards of this animal and arrange them in front of you. Additionally take the zookeeper of the same color as the background of the card(s) uncovered and put it in front of you.

Watch out! You only get the cards of the animals represented entirely on one card (mouse, frog, rabbit, beaver) if they are the first to be uncovered when it's your turn.

Then it's the turn of the next player to try their luck!

End of the Game

The game ends as soon as all the cards have been uncovered. For each zookeeper in front of you, you get one of the snake cards which were put aside at the beginning of the game. Each player now piles up their cards. Whoever has the biggest pile, wins the game. If there are various players with an equally high pile, they win together.

Hint: Of course you can play this memory game without the zookeepers and use all the cards for the game.

2. Quick Zookeepers

Who will be the zookeeper with the quickest reactions thereby collecting the most animals? A game of reaction for deft zookeepers.

Preparation of the Game

The three zookeepers are placed in the center of the table so that they can be easily reached by everybody and with an adequate distance between them. Cover the cards, shuffle them and arrange them around the zookeepers. Then choose any two cards and place them face down back into the box.

How to Play

The player who most recently visited a zoo starts the game. If you can not agree the tallest player starts.

Uncover a card facing the center of the table in a way that everybody can see it well. Be quick so that all players can see it at the same time.

  • Not all cards of this animal are uncovered yet? Nothing happens! Leave the card lying there face up. Then it's the turn of the next player in a clockwise direction to uncover a card.
  • Is an animal complete? Now you have to be quick! The players try to be the first to catch the zookeeper whose color matches with the background color of the card just uncovered.
    • You were the first to catch the right zookeeper? Excellent! As a reward you keep all cards of the animal in question in front of you.
    • Did you catch the wrong zookeeper or the animal is not yet complete? Unfortunately you have to put a card already in your possession back into the box. Of course only if you already have an animal in front of you.

End of the Game

As soon as all the cards are uncovered the game ends. The players pile up their cards. The one with the highest pile wins the game. If various players have an equally high pile, they all win.

3. Small and Big Animals

Who, with a bit of luck, will collect the most animals? A simple assigning game for little and big players ages 3+.

Preparation of the Game

The cards are covered, shuffled and placed on the table. The three zookeepers are not needed in this game and are kept in the box.

How to Play

The player who most recently has seen a giraffe starts the game. If you can't agree, the youngest player starts, uncovers a card and checks if an animal can be seen completely.

  • Not all cards of an animal are uncovered yet? Pity, bad luck! The uncovered card stays face up.
  • A complete animal can be seen? Well done! As a reward you keep all the cards of this animal in front of you.

Then it's the turn of the next player in a clockwise direction to uncover a card and check if an animal can be seen completely.

Watch out! If a player fails to see a completed animal, the following player can take it, keep it in front of them and play their turn.

End of the Game

As soon as all cards are uncovered and distributed, the game ends. Each player piles up all their cards. The one with the highest pile wins the game. If various players have an equally high pile they win together.
