Quick Setup
- Shuffle and stack the Yendraal's favor cards face-down in the area designated for planet-specific cards. Set the ecosystem cards aside until referenced.
- Place the flood and sponge tokens in the area designed for planet-specific tokens.
- Place the flood (purple-square) trigger token on the 2nd space of the timeline.
- Place all discoveries face-down (water illustration up) and mix them around. Note: for this planet it may be simpler to keep them on the table near the play area, rather than in the display, as they will need to be randomized routinely throughout the game.
- Return the investigated tokens to the box, they are not used on this planet.
Introduction
Yendraal is a massive coral body controlled by a sentient core and ravaged by ever-shifting tides that flood nodes without warning. If you're to survive here, you will need to navigate the floods (which cause distress), while also maintaining favor with the planet itself, primarily by helping relocate discoveries to their proper habitats—which will mean entering the floods.
Each time the planetary trigger is reached, the floods will move, and you will resolve the effects of your current standing with the planetary core.
Oh, and you also have your own tasks to deal with. It might be one of those days . . .
Planet Primer
When the time marker reaches the flood (purple) trigger: resolve the face-up Yendrall's favor card. (Printed as "Yendrall's" in the booklet header.)
First Contact
Most of what happens on Yendraal is driven by the flood trigger and the subsequent effects of the Yendraal's favor cards. At the start of the game, the favor cards are all face-down. The first time the trigger is reached:
- Flip the top Yendraal's favor card face-up and resolve step 1: roll both discovery dice and flood the resulting nodes.
- You now have until the trigger is reached again to earn planetary favor to either gain the face-up card's boon, or avoid its bane.
- From now on, when the time marker reaches the flood trigger, resolve both steps on the current Yendraal's favor card.
Flood
When resolving floods (step 1 of the Yendraal's favor cards):
- Roll both discovery dice to determine which nodes will become flooded. All nodes with matching symbols in their lower right will become (or remain) flooded.
- Remove flood tiles (and discoveries) from any currently flooded nodes whose symbol was not just rolled. Mix those discoveries face-down into the supply.
- Place flood tiles on top of each node that has a symbol that matches the rolled result. If a node with a matching result already has a flood, that flood remains.
- Place a discovery on each flood tile that doesn't have one (new floods and existing floods without a discovery).
- When a node is flooded, return all resources on that node to the general supply.
While a node is flooded:
- Any resources added to flooded nodes are lost and return to the supply.
Discoveries
On Yendraal, the only way to gain discoveries is to venture into the floods. When floods come in, discoveries come with them, they likewise leave with them when they recede.
Distress from Floods
- When an explorer enters a flooded node, or their node floods, they gain a distress: [distress icon].
Yendraal's Favor
The planet is sentient, with a will and desire of its own. As explorers take actions on the planet, some of those actions will either increase or decrease planetary favor.
The planet desires balance in its ecosystem. For millenia it has achieved this goal, but no effort is perfect; small things have slipped through. The planet knows that, in time, these small imbalances will lead to a collapse of the ecosystem.
INVESTIGATE the environment and the core will provide visions of opportunities to help restore balance and gain the planet's favor. Focus only on your own needs, and you will find yourself suffering the planet's bane.
Gaining and Losing Planetary Favor
Taking an action with this symbol [favor symbol] increases planetary favor. When this happens, add a marker to the bubble on the Yendraal's Favor card.
Taking an action with this symbol [crossed-out favor symbol] decreases planetary favor. When this happens, remove a marker (if able) from the bubble on the Yendraal's Favor card.
Triggering Yendraal's Favor Effects
When the time marker reaches the flood (purple square) trigger token on the timeline:
Resolve the trigger effects (both steps) of the current Yendraal's favor card, place it on the bottom of the stack, then flip the top Yendraal's favor card face-up on top of the stack.
Resolving Yendraal's Favor Effects
When resolving favor (flood trigger step 2), the crew decides as a group where to allocate the favor markers (from the bubble) either to Yendraal's Boon, Yendraal's Bane, or both.
- Yendraal's Boon — if the spaces on the left side are filled, the crew immediately gains the bonus effect below it.
- Yendraal's Bane — if the spaces on the right side are not filled, the negative effects occur immediately.
Favor markers that are not allocated to fulfill either requirement are lost.
Yendraal's Favor Card
The card's two steps, as printed on the card:
- Roll [discovery dice icon] [discovery dice icon] and flood nodes.
- Allocate and resolve favor, then replace this card.
Boon side (Yendraal's Boon, left):
- Two boon spaces (marked [boon space icon]), labelled 3 on the card.
- If both are filled: Distribute 1: [green icon] / [red icon] / [blue icon].
Bane side (Yendraal's Bane, right):
- Two bane spaces (marked [bane space icon]), labelled 4 on the card.
- If both are not filled: Distribute: [red chevron icon] [red chevron icon] [red chevron icon] [distribute icon].
The central bubble, labelled 1 on the card, is where favor markers are placed.
