Quick Setup
- Place the vine pull card in the play space oriented the same direction as the environment cards. This card establishes north, south, east, and west in the environment. Once you've completed your chosen survival task's setup, you may want to move the vine pull card up against the environment edge for extra clarity.
- Place the red triangle trigger token on the second-to-last space of the timeline. This is the vine pull trigger. Pretend it's green, that would have been better.
- There are 2 types of anomalies on Koguya: organic and inorganic. Separate them into two face-down piles in the area designated for anomalies.
Planet Primer
Overview: End of the Vine
The environment on Koguya is dynamic, varied, and full of motion. Sometimes this is great, as you'll be able to swing, bounce, and sling yourselves around with relative ease. Sometimes this is less great, as the planet will likewise be able to swing, bounce, and sling you around with relative ease. Maybe the vines just really want you to witness all the beauty their world has to offer. Maybe they want to rip you apart. Maybe both.
Interestingly, LUNA keeps going on about tunnels between the vines, tunnels in the vines, and so on. Probably something to pay attention to...
Vine Pull
Whenever the time token reaches the vine pull trigger, each explorer must individually resolve the vine pull card, one at a time, starting with the active explorer and then working clockwise around the table. To resolve a vine pull:
- Roll both the discovery dice. A total of 2, 3, 5, or 6 will result in the vines placing you 1 node in the indicated direction.
- A total of 4 results in distress and you being placed exactly 2 movement away.
Printed wording note: this step says "2 movement away", while the vine pull card's "You resist!" text says "exactly 2 nodes away". Both are transcribed as printed.
- If you roll a result that cannot be resolved, you gain a distress.
- Then, the next explorer clockwise around the table rolls both discovery dice and resolves their result. And so on.
Don't forget you can use free actions to respond to these types of unpredictable events.
Vine Pull Card
The vine pull card reads:
- Vine Pull. Roll 2 discovery dice. The vines aggressively place you 1 node in the resulting direction. If you are placed in a direction where there is no node present, and one cannot be revealed there, remain where you are and gain a distress.
- You resist! If you roll a result totaling 4, gain a distress and place yourself exactly 2 nodes away in the direction of your choosing.
The card shows the four compass directions: north, east, south, and west.
Example Vine Pull
- An explorer rolls both discovery dice. The total is 3.
- They refer to the vine pull card and see that 3 results in the vines placing them 1 node south.
- No one has any free actions (like breakthroughs) that can impact this result, so it resolves.
- Because this is a "place" effect, they ignore all node edge effects, but must resolve any "when entering" effects on the destination node.
Vine Tunnels
Various "tunnel"-type opportunities present themselves on Koguya: some vines can be lasered open and climbed into, looseness between some vines creates natural pathways, etc! Tunnels!
Tunnel access points are marked with one of three symbols: a square, a circle, or a triangle.
These symbols represent tunnel access points. If a node has a tunnel entrance symbol, then that node is connected by a tunnel to all other revealed nodes with the matching symbol.
Unfortunately, the constant constricting movement of the vines makes traversing these tunnels typically impossible.
Unless you're LUNA, who does what she wants.
LUNA and Tunnel Movement
When LUNA moves—as an alternative to moving onto an adjacent node—she may choose to instead place herself onto any node with a vine tunnel symbol matching a symbol on her node.
In addition, LUNA's primary function card enables her to place herself alone or take a local explorer through a tunnel onto a connected node.
Vine tunnel nuanced details:
- Luna's primary function card effect is separate from her movement action, so it can be performed even if LUNA has already used her movement that turn.
- If an effect lets an explorer "use" a tunnel, this is a "place" effect that lets you place that explorer onto any node with a tunnel symbol matching one on their current node. Because using a tunnel is a "place" effect, ignore node edge effects, but resolve any "when entering" effects.
Example Vine Tunnel Usage
- The active explorer uses a focus to activate LUNA's TUNNEL PLUNGE action (see: above), placing LUNA and the explorer through a tunnel on their node. She may place them on any node that has the same tunnel symbol.
- She ignores all node edge effects, but must resolve any "when entering" effect on the destination node.
Advanced Tunnel Plunge
LUNA's function card, Advanced Tunnel Plunge, reads: "LUNA and an explorer local to her use a tunnel entrance on their node."
Anomalies
Discoveries on Koguya have either the organic or inorganic property. A discovery's property determines which deck of anomaly cards you draw from. When you gain a discovery, draw an anomaly card matching the property on the discovery token.
Example: If you gained the Fractal Lens discovery, you would draw its anomaly from the inorganic anomaly deck.
Discovery examples shown in the booklet: Stupidly-Dense Stone (organic) and Fractal Lens (inorganic).
Anomaly Cards Shown in the Booklet
The booklet shows the following Koguya anomaly cards. The card images are too small to read on the page; where a card's text is given below it is taken from the booklet's embedded text layer. Where a card's text is not available, it is not reproduced here; the physical card governs.
- Macro Coil Canyon. When entering: You may boing (place) your explorer exactly 2 movement away.
- Prismatic Petal Park. Tunnel symbol shown; no further text legible in the booklet.
- Radiating Cascade. Tunnel symbol shown; no further text legible in the booklet.
- Resonating Reeds. When entering: [two icons, not legible in the booklet] Or [icon, not legible in the booklet].
- Drooping Vine Field. Tunnel symbol shown; no further text legible in the booklet.
- Swing With Grace. Place yourself on an adjacent node. You may also: [icon, not legible in the booklet] to take (place) another local explorer with you.

Vine Pulls & "When Entering" Effects
When the vine pull card deposits you on a different node, this is a "place" effect, meaning you ignore node edge effects, but resolve "when entering" effects.
A vine may pull you onto a node that immediately launches you onto another node, which then slings you to another, and so on. You'll quickly find that breakthroughs that enable you to manipulate vine pull results are exceptionally helpful . . .
