Contents and Setup

  • 3 Round cards
  • 46 Video cards
  • This rulebook

Place the Round cards face up in order: Round 1 card on top, followed by Round 2, then Round 3 at the bottom. Place the cards on the table so that all players can see the round number.

Shuffle the Video cards thoroughly. Place them face down to form the Video deck. Leave some space for the discard pile beside the deck.

Game Objective

Guess and describe as many video titles as you can using only two words!

Game Flow

  1. Reveal the top Round card and announce the category: Live Action Movies, TV Series or Animated Movies. During this round, all clues and guesses must come from this category.
  2. Each player draws 2 Video cards from the Video deck. Look at your cards, but don't show them to the others. Every player now has 4 titles that match the current round's category. Choose one title to describe.
  3. Look at the three titles on your Video cards that you did not choose. Each title has a colored first letter. Now, think of a two-word clue for your chosen title, each word starting with one of your chosen letters.
  4. When you're ready, announce that you're giving a clue, then say your two-word clue out loud. Other players try to be the first to guess the title by shouting out their ideas. E.g., "Is it Titanic?" "Is it Eurotrip?" "Is it The Human Centipede?"
  5. When a title is correctly guessed, the Clue Giver places both of their Video cards face up on the table: one card is placed in front of the player who guessed correctly, and the other goes to the Clue Giver. Each card is worth 1 Victory point. The player with the most points wins.

(The rulebook illustrates these steps with pictures, including speech bubbles showing an example clue, "Treasure Hunt!", and an example guess, "Indiana Jones".)

What if nobody can guess the title?

The Clue Giver discards both their Video cards. If players are taking too long to guess, you can set a one-minute timer to give final guesses.

The opportunity to give clues proceeds to another player. A round ends when all players have no cards left in hand. Discard the current Round card to the discard pile and begin a new round following the same rules.

Rounds

The game is played over 3 rounds. In each round, players give clues and guess videos based on the category of the Round card:

RoundCategoryDescription
Round 1Live Action MoviesFull-length, live-action films
Round 2TV SeriesSeries, live-action or animated
Round 3Animated MoviesFull-length or short animation

Example Turn

It's Round 1: Live Action Movies. Peter has drawn his two Video cards. He must choose one of the four movie titles on them. He decides to choose his favourite, The Matrix, as the title to give clues for. The other three movie titles on his cards begin with the colored letters I, R, and F. Peter needs to choose two words starting with two of these letters that describe the movie. To hint at plot, Peter says, "False Reality."

Giving Clues

  • You may use articles, prepositions and conjunctions, but they count as words. You can't describe Interstellar saying "McConaughey In Space." That's three words.
  • You may use the same letter twice — but only if it appears in different titles.
  • You may not use any words from the title, or any words that are derived from it. E.g., you can't describe the movie Taxi with the word "taxi driver," or Frozen with "freezing."
  • You may not make gestures, sounds, or comments on the title or guesses until the title is guessed or you decide to pass.

Can't come up with a clue?

Try a different video within the same category. Still stuck? You may pass and discard both of your Video cards to the discard pile. For the rest of this round, you will only be guessing.

Guessing

  • A player can make multiple guesses. However, you may not make two guesses in a row; let someone else make a guess after you've made one.
  • The video is correctly guessed when a player says the exact title as it appears on the Video card. The Clue Giver may accept a slightly different but clearly correct answer. E.g., Mario Bros. Movie instead of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

End of Game

Once the third round is over, the game ends. Each player counts the total number of their cards in front of them, and the player with the highest number of cards wins. The player with the most victory points is the winner! Roll out the red carpet for that cinema expert!

If multiple players have the same number of cards, they share the victory.

At the end of the game, count the cards and check your result:

CardsResult
12 cardsMovie geniuses! Have you seen every movie ever made or something?!
8–11 cardsExcellent performance! But not quite Oscar-worthy… yet.
4–7 cardsYou've either got sharp wits or real synergy for this. A worthy result!
0–3 cardsTough break with the cards? Better luck next round!

Two-Player Game

In a two-player game, the Guesser has a maximum of two attempts to guess the title. If correct, the Clue Giver places both cards into the shared pile. If both attempts fail, discard both cards.

Quick Mode (Blitz)

For a faster, easier game, use these rules to modify the standard gameplay:

  • At the start of each round, each player draws 1 Video card. You can use either of the two clue letters.
  • Your first clue word must begin with the colored letter from the unchosen title. For your second word, you may choose any letter of the alphabet you wish.
  • When a video is guessed correctly, place your card in front of the guessing player and draw a new one from the top of the deck and place it in front of yourself.
