Goal of the Game

Drive as many passengers as possible in your taxi to your own taxi stop, and at the same time place road signs so that you get there faster and make traffic harder for the other drivers.

Setup

Choose one side of the double-sided game board, in the European or the Asian style, and lay it out as you prefer.

Carefully punch out the road signs (A), the action signs (B) and the passenger figures (C) from the sheet. Shuffle all the signs and place them face down next to the game board, in a stack (D).

Place a set number of passenger figures (see below) on any free brown rectangles (F) with building pictures (E) in the middle of the game board. Passengers must face the street with their feet. Return any passenger figures not needed in the game to the box.

Recommended number of passengers:

  • 2 players: play with four passengers. The winner is the player who first drives their second passenger to a taxi stop.
  • 3 players: play with six passengers. The winner is the player who first drives their third passenger to a taxi stop. If all players have driven two passengers to a taxi stop, the player who got there first wins.
  • 4 players: play with eight passengers. The winner is the player who first drives their fourth passenger to a taxi stop. If two players have driven three passengers to a taxi stop, the player who got there first wins. If all players have driven two passengers to a taxi stop, the player who got there first wins.

Each player chooses a taxi and places it on the stop (G) nearest to them (see the picture).

Turn Order

The youngest player starts the game. Play as follows:

  1. Take one token from the stack of signs.
    • If the token is a road sign, place it on a street space of the game board. You may place it on a space where a road sign already stands. In that case the previous sign becomes invalid. A road sign may not be placed on a traffic light or on any street space occupied by a taxi. If the token is an action sign, follow the instructions for it.
  2. Roll the die.
  3. Move your taxi according to the number rolled.

Use all of your moves, observing the traffic rules (the road signs) and other rules that apply depending on the circumstances. You may choose any direction of movement, but during a single turn you may not move forward and then back. Overtaking is allowed, but two taxis cannot stop on the same street space at the same time. If you land on a space that is already occupied, you must stop on the previous space.

Passengers

All passengers on the game board are available to all players. You may stop your taxi at your own stop, or pick up a passenger on the way, even if you do not use all of your moves (in that case you lose the remaining moves). You may pick up a passenger into your taxi only on the game board space at the passenger's feet.

Place the passenger through the roof hatch into your car. You must take the passenger to your taxi stop and drop them off there. Only after that may you go for a new passenger.

Die and Traffic Light

The colour of the die is taken into account only when you try to drive through an intersection with a traffic light (H).

  • If you roll a red number (1 or 2), you must stop in front of the traffic light. Your turn is over.
  • If you roll a yellow number (4 or 6), you may use only half of the rolled moves. If that is not enough to get through the intersection, you must stop in front of the traffic light and wait for your next turn.
  • If you roll a green number (3 or 5), you may continue moving. But if you do not have enough moves to get through the intersection, stop in front of the traffic light.

Victory

The game ends when no player can drive more passengers to a taxi stop than another player has already done. That player wins!

If several players have driven the same number of passengers to a taxi stop, the winner is the one who delivered their last passenger earlier than the others.

The game also ends if all signs have been used (the last sign = the last move). The winner is determined in the same way (see above).

Game Variant

To simplify the game, you may remove from the game the road signs marked with an asterisk (*) in the rules.

Road Signs

Road signs (blue background). Signs marked with an asterisk (*) are the ones that may be removed in the simplified variant.

  • Slippery road – drive slowly (triangular warning sign). Passing through this sign, you skip one move.
  • No parking. If you stopped on this space, you may roll the die once more and continue moving.
  • No stopping. If you must stop on this space, move your taxi 5 steps forward.
  • Warning: pedestrian crossing ahead (triangular warning sign). Passing this sign, reduce your speed (make one move fewer than the number rolled on the die). If you had to stop on this sign, on your next turn continue moving in accordance with the rules.
  • Pedestrian crossing. Pedestrians are on the pedestrian crossing. Stopping before this sign is mandatory in all directions. Continue moving on your next turn.
  • Speed limit 40. When passing through this sign, you may not make the fifth or sixth step. For example, if the sign is four steps away and you rolled 5 points, you may not drive past the sign and make the fifth step. You must stop on the space with the sign.
  • Stop. Movement without stopping is prohibited in all directions; stopping before the sign is mandatory. Continue moving on your next turn.
  • No entry (*). Movement in all directions is prohibited.
  • Mandatory turn right / left. Place this sign only at an intersection. It applies only to cars that approach the sign from the side of the arrow's base.
  • One-way traffic (*). Place the sign so that the direction indicator on the sign is parallel to the street. Taxis may drive only in the direction of the arrow on the sign. The sign is valid only on the street where it is placed.

Action Signs

Action signs (green background).

  • Mechanic. If you drew this sign, move your car to one of the mechanic spaces. Your turn is over. In addition, you must skip your next turn. Then remove the sign from the game.
  • Gas station. If you drew this sign, move your car to one of the gas station spaces. Your turn is over. Then remove the sign from the game.
  • Police. This sign may be placed on any street space of the game board. If you drive past this sign after rolling 5 or 6 on the die, you have exceeded the speed limit – immediately move your taxi to your own stop.
  • Remove a sign. If you drew this sign, you may remove any sign on the game board. Then remove both signs from the game.
  • No turn right / no turn left. Place this sign only at an intersection. It applies only to cars that approach the sign from the side of the arrow's base.
  • Parking meter. If you stopped on this sign, park (skip one move).
  • Stop: police (*). Mandatory stop in all directions. Continue moving on your next turn if you rolled 1, 2 or 3.
