Components
- 25 unique character cubes
- 15 character cards
- Game grid (with card spaces)
Aim of the Game
Match five cubes horizontally, vertically or diagonally to win!
Set It Up
- Place all cubes in the game grid. Mix the cubes up properly so there are no more than two of each character in the same row or column, or the game will be too easy! Turn the grid around so that both players can see each side to make sure.
- Shuffle the 15 character cards and deal two face down to each player.
- Place your two cards face down into the card spaces in front of your grid. Don't look at them yet.
- The youngest player starts.
Play!
- Player 1 pushes the top left corner cube out of the game grid.
- Player 2 picks up the cube then uses it to push out and replace another cube.
- Take it in turns to push out cubes.
- When you have five matching characters in a row, shout: "MATCH!"
Note:
- You cannot push out the cube used on the turn before.
- The corner square may remain empty.
Have You Won?
- Show your opponent which character you've matched.
- Your opponent then turns their cards over.
- If one of your opponent's cards matches your row of five, they Snatch the Match and win the game!
Top Trumps Match Tournament (Longer Game)
Aim: The first player to score 5 (or 6) points wins the game.
Strategy: Points are awarded for rows of cubes that match a player's cards, so try and use cubes that are the same as your cards.
- Set the game up in the same way, but turn your cards over before you play.
- Play until you have five matching characters in a row and shout: "MATCH!"
- Show your opponent which character you've matched, and your cards.
- If your line matches one of your cards, you win two points and the match.
- Be careful! If your line doesn't match your cards, your opponent might get the points!
Snatching the Match!
Your opponent shows their cards.
- If either of their cards match your line, your opponent snatches the match and gets two points — and you get none!
- If nobody's card matches your line, you get one point.
Play again until one player scores 5 (or 6) points and win the tournament.
