Components
- 1 Pizza board
- 45 Topping discs
- 30 Order cards
- 14 Tip cards (4 x $1.00, 6 x $2.00, 4 x $3.00)
- 1 Cloth bag
Setup
Shuffle the tip cards and deal one more card than 2 times the number of players face down in a stack. Put the others in the box. Shuffle the regular order cards and flip 5 of them face up near the board. Put the others face down in a stack.
Place all the Toppings in the cloth bag, and randomly draw four of them. Hold them a few inches above the centre of the pizza board and let them drop. The game will start with those Toppings in the position where they came to rest. If any fall off the pizza, return them to the bag.
All players randomly draw four Toppings from the bag.
The start player is the player who most recently ordered a pizza.
Game Play
The start player takes the first turn. Turns alternate in a clockwise order. On his turn, a player two actions, chosen from the following, in any order.
- Add a Topping from his hand. (see Adding a Topping)
- Flip all the Toppings of one type on the pizza. (see Flipping Toppings)
The same action can be taken twice.
Once his actions have been taken, the player checks to see if any order were completed. (see Completing an Order). If the player has fewer than four Toppings, he then draws Toppings from the bag until he has four. Completed order cards are replaced from the stack before the next player's turn.
Note: the printed rule reads "On his turn, a player two actions" (the word "takes" appears to be missing) and "any order were completed"; both are reproduced as printed.
Adding a Topping
To add a Topping, the player must place it anywhere on the crust area of the pizza (outside the slice areas) and flick it with one finger. The Topping must hit at least one Topping disc already on the pizza, otherwise it is removed and returned to the bag. This still counts as one of the player's actions. If any Toppings are knocked off the pizza, they are given to the player on the right of the current player.
Flipping Toppings
When flipping Toppings, the player chooses one type of Topping (e.g. 'olives' or 'pepperoni') and flips all discs showing that Topping to their opposite side. The player must be careful to leave them in the same position. (In case of disagreement, the player to the right of the current player replaces the Topping.)
Completing an Order
A Topping that touches any part of a slice area (i.e. crosses over the white line) is considered on that slice.
An order is complete if all the Toppings shown on the card, AND ONLY THOSE, are on a slice.
To complete an order, the active player must have added, moved, or flipped a Topping that is on the slice during his turn. When an order is completed, the order card is taken by the player and placed in his score pile. One Topping disc is removed from that slice by the player and returned to the bag.
More than one order can be completed simultaneously. In that case, the player takes a tip card in addition to the order cards, and places them all in his score pile. One Topping disc is then removed from each slice that was completed.
Top This!
Instead of taking a regular turn, as described above, a player can declare that he will complete a specific order with panache. To do so, he must point at the order card he will complete, declare "Top This!" in an overly confident tone, and add a single Topping to the pizza. If he succeeds in completing that order, he takes a tip card in addition to the order card. If he fails, he gets nothing. In either case, he draws back up to four Toppings (replaces the order card if necessary) and play passes to the next player.
Game End
Once the last tip card is taken, or the last card is revealed from the stack of order cards, play continues until all players have had the same number of turns. The player then add the value of the order and tip cards they have collected in their score pile. The player with the highest total wins. In case of a tie, the player with the highest total in tips wins. In case of a further tie, the player with the most completed orders wins. If two or more players are still tied another game is played to determine the true winner.
Note: the printed rule reads "The player then add the value" (subject-verb agreement as printed); reproduced as printed.
