Goal of the Game

TOP FACE! proposes to bring together families or friends around 3 different games with increasing difficulty. They are played in several rounds from 3 to 8 players. Whatever the chosen game, the goal is to make the other guess and to guess oneself as many faces as possible. Card values are indicated on the back.

  • White cards: 1 point
  • Purple cards: 2 points

Tip: Keep your points secret during the game.

Duration

Around 15 minutes.

Main Principles

  • Whose turn to make a face? The player making the most original face starts the game. The game continues with the next player clockwise. The one whose turn it is to make the others guess is called 'active player'.
  • How to make a face? Obviously with your face, and possibly your hands. The face must be static and mute. Be careful not to look at the corresponding face card on the table when making the others guess. During a game, everyone can pass one time and only one, to pick a new card.
  • How to point out a face card? Players who think they have found the corresponding card on the table, point it out with their finger as fast as possible. Only one card can be pointed out by players. (2 cards for a 3 players' game). A player surprised by others pointing more cards than allowed loses a white card (1 point) if he has one. The card is placed under the deck.
  • Warning: Once someone has pointed out a card, he cannot change his mind anymore. A card can be designated only by a single player. If more than one player point at the card at the same time, the player whose finger is the most centered on the card wins. The other players may point to another card.

Set Up

Spread out cards from the purple pack on the table, faces up. Place on the center of table, the other pack, face down: the deck.

Easy mode: Everyone can tell the background color of the card: green, yellow, blue and red.

Game 1: The Big Contest!

  • The first player takes a card from the deck and looks at it secretly. Then he shouts: "TOP FACE!" and makes the face while the other players are trying to find the corresponding card on the table.
  • If a face is guessed, the active player keeps his card (1 point). The player who guesses the face gets the card he designated (2 points).
  • If no one guesses the face, the active player's card is placed back under the deck.

Winner

The game ends after at least one full table turn and when a player reaches 9 points or more. The player with the highest score wins.

Game 2: The Infernal Race!

  • The first player turns over the sand timer, and then tries to make guess as many faces as possible to the other players until the sand timer comes to an end.
  • If a face is guessed, the active player keeps his card (1 point). Otherwise, the card can be replaced as long as only one person is still left guessing.
  • The player who guessed the face immediately takes 1 white card from the deck to score 1 point.
  • The active player then takes a new card to make guess another time and so on until the end of the sand timer. Once the time is up, he-she can continue to make the others guess his card.
  • If a face is not guessed, the white card of the active player is placed back under the deck.

Winner

The game ends after two complete table turns (1 turn from 5 players) or if the deck is over. The player with the highest score wins.

Game 3: All Nuts!

This game is for players who already have a good knowledge of games 1 and 2.

  • Give everyone a card from the deck to be looked at secretly. Once everyone is ready, turn the sand timer. Then everyone makes his face at the same time while searching visually for the others' face on the table.
  • Once a player notes the end of the sand timer, he shouts "TOP FACE!". Everyone can then choose up to 2 cards on the table by taking them immediately.
  • Those that succeed to make their face be guessed score 2 points (they take the purple card of the player who guessed it) and those who guessed a face score 1 point (they take the white card of the player of whom they made the right guess).
  • If a face is not guessed, the white card of the active player is placed back under the deck. The mistakenly chosen purple cards are placed back on the table.

Winner

The game ends when a player reaches 7 points or more. The player with the highest score wins. In case of ex-aequo, play a round again.
