A skill takes effect even if its hit rolls no hits, but a bone icon beside an effect needs that many bones rolled. A Defense die that rolls a bone with no bone ability does nothing and goes back to the supply. Careless in the Skills step defeats a Baddie at 1 HP before it rolls.
