Components

  • 1 game board
  • 4 pirate ships
  • 4 captain pawns
  • 4 captain cards (double-sided: active side and cursed side)
  • 4 island flags
  • 1 first player token
  • 1 Kraken
  • 1 tower
  • 4 plastic stands
  • 3 wooden cubes
  • 10 treasure tokens
  • 48 coin tokens
  • 32 treasure card tokens (front side, back side, Jolly Roger)

Setup

If this is your first game, first assemble the captains, ships, Kraken and tower following the assembly instructions. Lay out the game board and place it on the table. Place the wooden cubes, treasure tokens and coin tokens next to the board; this is the supply.

Place the tower on the island in the center of the board.

The youngest player receives the first player token and places the Kraken on any empty sea space on the board that does not border the tower or any player's ship.

Shuffle the treasure card tokens and place them on the islands with the matching letter shown on the back of the token. There must be 4 tokens on each island.

Starting with the first player and going clockwise, each player chooses a captain card, takes its pawn, chooses a ship and takes the corresponding island flag. Each player places their ship on the island in a corner of the board showing their flag, and places their captain on the stern (rear) of the ship.

Then each player places their captain card and island flag in front of them next to the board. This is their hold. When a player receives treasure, coins or treasure cards, they place them in their hold.

Gameplay

Your goal as a pirate captain is to hunt for gold and find treasure. To Glory! lasts several rounds. Each round begins with the first player, who performs actions in any order. When a player finishes their turn, the next player clockwise takes their turn, and so on. The round ends when all players have taken a turn.

On your turn you may perform up to 5 ship actions, 1 cannon volley, and use your captain's ability once. The ship actions available are: move, turn and explore. For example, on your turn you may make 2 moves, use your captain's ability, fire a cannon volley, and then make a turn.

At the start of your turn, after performing your first action, take your captain off your ship and place him on space "1" of your captain card. Each time you perform an action, move him one space down the track to keep count of the actions performed. At the end of your turn, return the captain to your ship.

Move

Move your ship or the Kraken to an adjacent sea space that contains no Kraken, tower, island or other ship. The Kraken may move to any free space but keeps its current facing. A ship can only move forward. Neither the Kraken nor a ship may end its move next to the Kraken, another ship or the tower; they must keep moving, turning if necessary, until they are no longer next to them.

If your ship ends its move on a space adjacent to an island for which you already have a treasure card, reveal that treasure card token, take a treasure token from the supply, and put the treasure card token back in the box.

Turn

Turn your ship, the Kraken or the tower by 1/6 of a hex space of the board.

Explore

If your ship is on a space adjacent to an island for which you do not yet have a treasure card, take a treasure card token from that island. If the token shows a treasure card, place it face down next to your captain card. If the token shows a Jolly Roger, do the following:

  1. Reveal the token: you are now cursed! Flip your captain card to its cursed side.
  2. Take a new treasure card token from the island.
  3. Place the Jolly Roger token back on the island face down and shuffle it with the other tokens on the island.

Cannon Volley

Once per turn you may use your ship, the Kraken or the tower to attack your opponents. To do so, place the 3 wooden cubes on the lever of the chosen object and, without moving or turning it, FIRE (lightly strike the opposite end of the lever so that the cubes fly up)! Hitting an opponent's ship, the Kraken or the tower earns you coins depending on the accuracy of the hit. You receive coins only once per turn, and only for the best hit:

  • 1 coin: a cube hit an opponent's ship, the Kraken or the tower.
  • 2 coins: a cube landed on an opponent's ship, the Kraken or the tower.
  • 3 coins: you knocked another player's captain off his ship. The captain stays knocked down until the start of his owner's turn, when the owner places him back on the stern of the ship without spending an action.

For example, if one cube of a volley hits the Kraken, another lands on the red captain's ship, and a third lands on the yellow captain's ship, you receive the highest possible number of coins, but only once, so 2 coins in total.

Captain's Ability

Once per turn you may use your captain's ability. Using a captain's ability cannot be interrupted by any other actions.

The captain abilities are:

  • Make up to 2 moves with your ship without spending actions.
  • Turn your ship up to 2 times without spending actions.
  • Turn the tower up to 2 times without spending actions.
  • Make up to 2 moves with the Kraken without spending actions.

Curse

If you receive a curse (in any way during the game), flip your captain card to its cursed side; you can no longer use your captain's ability. You remain cursed until you hit an opponent's ship using your ship (not the Kraken or the tower). By hitting an opponent you are freed from the curse, and it passes to them! Flip your captain card back to its active side, and your opponent flips their card to the cursed side. If you hit several opponents while cursed, the curse passes to all of them (if an opponent is already cursed, they simply remain cursed).

Victory

The game ends at the end of the round in which one of the players has collected enough treasures (2 in a 4-player game, 3 in a 3-player game, and 4 in a 2-player game). Then the players count victory points for treasures and coins. You receive 1 victory point for each coin and 6 victory points for each treasure in your hold.

The player with the most points wins! In case of a tie, the player with the most treasure tokens wins.
