How does a Sierra Madre treasure search work?
The designer ruled only that cancelled skulls count toward the 10; the rest is consistent across player posts quoting the rule sticker.

Draw 10 train cards one at a time. Each skull stops you unless you show a differently lettered map piece, and each piece counts once per search, so at most six skulls can be cancelled. Newspapers count as skulls without triggering an event. Skulls you cancel still count among the 10; you succeed if you get through all 10. If the 10th card is an uncancelled skull the search fails but any pieces already shown are kept. Treasure Huntress or certain postcards change the number.
