Does a grey route earn the company bonus if I pay with my company colour?
The designer answered no, and the rulebook ties the bonus to routes matching your company colour.

No. The bonus depends on the route's own colour on the board, not the cards played. A grey route is neither your colour nor a share colour, so neither the company bonus nor share effects apply.
