Yes. The rulebook has a "Someone miss a game?" section: players who miss a game get a score for each game they missed, revealed at the end of the campaign. Players report that a late joiner can use the same mechanism, but that the catch-up scores can be generous and the player misses story and rule changes, so a fixed group works best.
