Preparation
Each person takes 1 game sheet and a pen, and keep the die ready. The game sheets have one side with a yellow carpet (A) and one with a blue carpet (B). Make sure everyone plays with the same side. For the first game we recommend using side A.
Draw 6 circles at any places highlighted by dark shadows. These are valuable porcelain cups that are unfortunately standing around on the carpet.
Now shuffle the game sheets face down and deal them out among you again.
Goal of the Game
By cleverly laying out your wool, you try to lure your cat to as many objects as possible, without knocking over the valuable porcelain cups. The more objects you collect, the more points you receive at the end of the game.
Playing the Game
Each round the die is rolled exactly 1 time. The roll always applies to everyone.
Now extend your wool thread on your game sheet. Draw the thread exactly as many spaces as the number rolled. In the first round the thread starts directly below the ball of wool; after that you always start at the point where you stopped drawing in the previous round.
The following applies:
- You may only draw straight from point to point, and may bend at a right angle at most 1 time.
- Each segment between two points may only be used once in total. You may cross your thread, but you must count the crossing point.
- You simply draw over the objects (mouse, sock, paper plane, cup). Building blocks are obstacles that you may not draw over!
If you cannot or do not want to draw the full die roll, you must pass.
Example: In the first turn a 6 was rolled and the wool thread was drawn 4 points to the right and 2 points down (black line). Now a 4 was rolled, and the 6 coloured lines show the possible moves from this point.
If your wool thread reaches one of the objects (mouse, sock, paper plane, cup), mark this in the collection bar at the bottom by crossing the next free box for the corresponding object (starting from the left).
Example: The first mouse was reached – the first box is crossed in the collection bar.
If you draw over a cup, you must cross a box at the cup at the bottom.
Example: Draw over the first cup and cross the first box.
If your wool thread reaches the lower end with the cat's paw, you may decide to end the thread here (remaining pips may exceptionally be forfeited). Cross the corresponding box. You receive 5 extra points and sit out until the end of the game.
Example: The thread can end at the cat's paw (black line) – then the corresponding box is crossed. However, it is also possible to come from above and bend here (coloured lines) instead of ending the thread.
Activating the Round Counter
As soon as anyone has collected a set of mouse, sock and paper plane, the round counter is activated for everyone. To do so, cross the hourglass!
From now on you must all pay attention to the round counter in all following rounds.
Checking and Marking the Round Counter
(Only when the round counter is activated.)
Is the number rolled greater than or equal to the topmost number in the counter bar on the right that has not yet been crossed off? If yes, you must cross off that box on the counter bar before using the die roll as normal to extend your thread.
End of the Game and Final Scoring
The game ends after the round in which the last number of the round counter was crossed off. Alternatively, the game also ends when no one can or wants to extend their thread any more.
You receive the following points:
- For each collected object (mouse, sock or paper plane) you get 1 point.
- For each set of objects (mouse + sock + paper plane) you receive the points indicated below it.
- You get 5 points if you have connected the wool thread with the cat.
- For each knocked-over cup you get 2 minus points.
Whoever has the most points wins. In case of a tie, whoever collected more objects in total wins.
Example: Scoring with 5 mice, 6 socks, 2 paper planes, 2 sets, 2 cups and the connected ball of wool: 5 + 6 + 2 for the objects, 2 + 3 for the two sets, −4 for the cups, +5 for the cat = 19.
Easier Variant for Beginners
To simplify the game, you can simply skip drawing in the porcelain cups, or simply not count minus points for the cups for those who have not yet mastered the game so well.
Variant Without Crossing
Play Wolle exactly as described, but with the restriction that you may not cross your thread.
