Collect four different food baskets and be the first player to return home with them.

Contents

  • 3-dimensional gameboard which includes 1 game platform, 2 parts sheets and 2 plastic snaps
  • 4 cardboard Smurf pawns with 4 plastic pawn bases
  • 1 die
  • 32 cardboard food basket discs

Figure 1 (diagram of the assembled gameboard). Labels printed on the figure: Back Wall (Mushroom Village); Back Wall (Mountain Scene); Mushroom Houses; Large Mountain; Small Mountain; Left Side Wall; Right Side Wall; Bridge; Food Area Circle; Game Platform; Wheel #1 (7-cat wheel); Wheel #2 (6-cat wheel).

How to Set Up the Game

  1. Remove the game platform from the box bottom and punch out all the areas marked "PUNCH OUT". Also, carefully punch out all the narrow slots on the platform.
  2. Punch out the two large wheels on the parts sheets. Then punch out the 16 small holes on each wheel. These wheels control the appearance and disappearance of the cat on the path and they should be attached to the game platform with their plastic snaps, as shown in Figure 2. Notice Wheel #1 (7-cat wheel) is positioned UNDER the "C" and "D" labeled area of the game platform; Wheel #2 is positioned UNDER the "E", "F", "G", "H" labeled area of the platform. Adjust the wheels so that one or more of the cats' heads in either wheel lines up perfectly through the hole or holes. (The head or heads should be completely visible.)

Figure 2 (diagram of the wheel being attached to the game platform).

  1. Return game platform to its original position in box bottom.
  2. Punch out piece labeled "Back Wall" (Mushroom Village) from the parts sheet and insert it between the game platform and the back of the box (see Figure 1, for proper position).
  3. Punch out piece labeled "Back Wall" (Mountain Scene) from the parts sheet and insert it between the game platform and the back of the box (see Figure 1, for proper position).
  4. Punch out the pieces labeled "Left Side Wall" and "Right Side Wall" from the parts sheets and insert them between the game platform and the sides of the box (see Figure 1, for proper positioning).
  5. Punch out piece labeled "Mushroom Houses" from the parts sheet, fold it on the score line and insert tabs "A" and "B" into their matching "A" and "B" slots on the game platform.
  6. Punch out the piece labeled the "Bridge" from the parts sheet. Fold the two side panels of the bridge down on the score lines; then fold the two end panels of the bridge down on the score lines. Insert Tab "C" into its matching "C" slot on the game platform. Fit the four feet of the bridge into their slots and then insert Tab "D" into its matching slot "D" on the game platform.
  7. Punch out piece labeled "Large Mountain" from the parts sheet. Fold down on the score line and insert tabs "E" and "F" into their matching slots on the game platform.
  8. Punch out piece labeled "Small Mountain" from the parts sheet. Fold down on the score line and insert tabs "G" and "H" into their matching slots on the game platform.
  9. Punch out the 32 Food Basket discs. Divide them into 4 groups of 8 each: acorns, strawberries, apples and grapes. Place each group of 8 discs face-up on its matching Food Area Circle on the gameboard.
  10. Punch out the 4 Smurf pawns. Insert each one into a plastic pawn base. Every player chooses one Smurf pawn to move and place it in the space marked "HOME" on the gameboard.
  11. Position the now completely assembled gameboard on a flat surface so it is easily accessible to all players.

How to Play the Game

  1. Each player rolls the die. The player with the highest die count goes first followed to the left by the other players.
  2. HERE'S HOW YOU MOVE: on your move you have the choice of doing either of the following: A. Toss the die and move your pawn along the path the number of spaces indicated by the die count. OR B. Advance one of the two large wheels one space counter-clockwise (see the advantage of operating the wheels in Rule 5.)
  3. WHERE TO MOVE: move your pawn along the path by die count to the 4 Food Area Circles where the Food Basket discs are located. You must collect one disc from each area and return "HOME" first with them in order to win the game. Notice there are 8 discs in each Food Area Circle. You do not have to enter these areas by exact count. When you do enter a Food Area Circle, take ONE Food Basket disc and wait there until your next turn to move. STRATEGY HINT: during the course of play, you may lose one or two Food Basket discs, so it may be to your advantage to leave the Food Area Circle with one disc on one turn and re-enter the same circle on your next turn to get another disc of the same kind. This way, if you are forced into giving up a disc, you may surrender your duplicate disc. ...remember, you must bring back 4 DIFFERENT Food Basket discs to the "HOME" space first to win the game.
  4. THE 12 CAT HOLES: look at the gameboard...the 12 circular holes on the path are where Azrael, the cat, appears and disappears. If there is a cat in a hole in front of your path, you cannot cross over the cat and must do either of the following: A. Toss the die and reroute your pawn back along the path and away from the cat. You must move your pawn the full count of the die toss. Your pawn is always free to move either forward along the path or backward along the path as long as there is no cat in its way. OR B. Turn either wheel one space counter-clockwise (see "The Wheels" in Rule 5, for a clearer explanation). If there is no cat in a hole in front of your path, merely count this hole as a regular path space to either land on or pass over depending on your die toss.
  5. THE WHEELS: the two large wheels control the appearance and disappearance of the cat Azrael from the 12 Cat Holes on the path. To operate the wheels correctly, put your finger under the oval slot (on a small hole) and advance the wheel one space counter-clockwise. When you do this one of the following will happen: A. The cat disappears from the particular hole you want him to scat from. OR B. The cat disappears from the particular hole you want him to scat from but another cat appears in his place. Once you turn a wheel, your turn is over. Remember, on your turn you either turn a wheel or toss the die... you cannot do both.

How to Win the Game

Be the first player to reach home with 4 DIFFERENT FOOD BASKETS and you win the game. Exact count is needed to enter the "Home" space for a win, so you might have to move your pawn backwards and forwards on the path several turns before you toss the exact die count.

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CAT LANDS ON YOU? If your pawn is in a cat-free Cat Hole and an opponent turns the wheel so a cat appears in your Cat Hole, you are penalized. You lose a Food Basket disc! Return any one disc to its matching Food Area Circle. If you don't have a disc to give up, then you must return your pawn back to the "HOME" space.
  • LOSE FOOD BASKET SPACES: If you land on a space labeled "LOSE FOOD BASKET", you must return any one of your Food Basket discs to its matching Food Area Circle. If you don't have a disc to give up, then you must return your pawn back to the "HOME" space.
  • THE HOME SPACE: this is the START space for all of the pawns. During the game, if you are penalized a Food Basket Disc and do not have one, you must return your pawn to the "HOME" space. When playing, count the "HOME" space as a regular path space.
  • Two or more pawns cannot be on the same space at the same time. If you land on a space occupied by another player, advance your pawn to the next open space on the path. If a cat is in that next open space, YOU CANNOT PASS OVER A CAT, so you must reroute your pawn and move it in another direction along the path the full count of the die.
  • If your pawn has a cat in front of it and a cat behind it, you cannot toss the die on your turn. Instead, you are forced into turning one wheel one space counter-clockwise. It is possible, that after you have thrown the die, you might find yourself blocked by cats in both directions. If this happens, you are not allowed to turn a wheel since you have already tossed the die ...instead you lose your turn and do not move at all!!
  • STRATEGY HINT: on your turn, it is sometimes to your advantage to turn the wheel and try to make a cat appear to either pounce on an opponent or to reroute an opponent!
