Object of the Game
Once all of the players have escaped the island, or when the Storm Tracker token reaches the final space, the game is over. Each player gives themselves one point for every Egg they've collected and three points for every Ranger in their SUV. The player with the most points wins! In the case of a tie, the player who escaped first is the winner.
What if the Storm Tracker token reaches the final space but I haven't escaped the island yet? SORRY – you're stuck on Isla Nublar indefinitely! Better luck next time!
Components
- Gameboard
- Storm Tracker Token
- Spinner (dial, base, pointer, cardboard insert)
- 4 Miniature SUVs
- 36 Ranger Pegs
- 60 Dinosaur Egg Tokens
- 69 Cards (30 Event, 15 Item, 15 Skill, 4 SUV, 5 Reference)
- 3 Dinosaur Tokens (1 Raptor, 1 T-Rex, 1 Dilophosaurus)
The First Time You Play
- Turn the dial upside down, then place the cardboard insert on top of the dial with the spinner colours face down. Line up the three larger notches on the insert with the tabs on the dial. Then twist the insert clockwise slightly to lock in place.
- Now flip the dial over and check the spinner colours. The spinner should look like this example here (i.e. 1 is yellow, 10 is light green). On the inner circle, black lines up with even numbers and red lines up with odd numbers.
- Insert the spinner and pointer into the base. Then slot the four tabs on the base into the square holes on the gameboard, and slide the base forward (i.e. away from the pointer) to lock in place.
- Remove the Dinosaur Egg tokens from the cardboard frame.
Get Ready!
- Place the gameboard in the centre of play.
- Shuffle the Event, Item and Skill cards and place them face down next to the gameboard in three separate piles. Give each player one reference card.
- Place the Egg tokens and Ranger pegs next to the gameboard. Give each player three Egg tokens.
- Place the Storm Tracker token on the dinosaur icon on the gameboard Storm Tracker.
- Place the Velociraptor, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Dilophosaurus tokens on their corresponding starting spaces.
- Each player chooses an SUV and puts one Ranger peg inside, then places it on the Visitor Centre space. Take the corresponding SUV card and place it in front of you, standard (not upgraded) side up.
Note: you can choose any colour Ranger peg at any time during the game.
Let's Play!
The player who most recently watched Jurassic Park goes first! This player will also hold the Dino card. If it's a tie, spin the spinner to see who goes first.
On Your Turn
- Spin the spinner and move forward that number of spaces.
- If you pass over a Ranger space, you may choose to stop there.
- If you pass over a Nest space, collect one Egg.
- Where did you land? Check The Board Spaces section when you land on each space.
- That's it! Your turn is over and the player to your left spins next.
SUV Bonuses
Each player's SUV has a bonus number. When any player, including you, spins that number, collect one Egg from the pile.
Upgrade Your SUV
At the start of your turn, before spinning, you may choose to upgrade your SUV. Pay five Eggs to the pile and flip over your SUV card to the upgraded side. From now on, you collect three Eggs when any player spins your bonus number.
The Dinos' Turn
Once all players have taken a turn, it's… THE DINOS' TURN!
At the end of each round, the dinosaurs will be on the move. Let the chase begin! Here's what to do:
- The player holding the Dino card moves the Storm Tracker token down one space on the Storm Tracker.
- That player now moves each dinosaur clockwise to the next coloured space.
- Sections of the path are colour-coded. If any player is in the same colour zone that a Dinosaur moves to, that player loses eggs or a Ranger peg from their SUV, depending on the space shown on the Storm Tracker. If they only have one Ranger peg in their SUV, they miss their next turn instead.
Note: if a player is on a STOP space, they are not affected by the dinosaur.
The Attack Path
Sections of the path are colour-coded. If a dinosaur moves into the same colour zone as you, you must suffer the consequences indicated by the Storm Tracker!
Rangers and Dino Eggs
Players must have at least one Ranger in their SUV at all times. If you draw an Event card that causes you to lose a Ranger but you only have one left, just place the card at the bottom of the deck and end your turn.
Likewise, if you draw an Event card that causes you to lose an Egg but you don't have any left, place the card at the bottom of the deck and end your turn.
Tips & Tricks
- Upgrade your SUV as soon as you can to rack up more Eggs (and points)!
- Be careful not to get carried away taking the long routes, as time is precious and the storm is coming!
The Board Spaces
-
Event – Draw the top Event card from the pile, read it out loud and do what it says. Then return it to the bottom of the deck.
-
Item – Draw the top Item card from the pile. You can keep it in your hand until you're ready to play it, or play it on the same turn you draw it. Once you've used it, return it to the bottom of the deck.
- Note: you may only have three Item cards in your hand at any time. If you already have three in your hand, you can draw one and discard down to three at the end of your turn.
-
Skill – Draw the top Skill card from the pile and keep it face up in front of you. The benefits of that skill will help you throughout the game.
- Note: you may only have three Skill cards in front of you at any time. If you already have three in front of you, you may draw one and discard down to three at the end of your turn.
-
Rescue a Ranger – If you pass over a Ranger space, you can choose to stop here and rescue a Ranger instead of moving your full spin. If you do stop, take a Ranger peg and add it to your SUV. (Players may not exceed six Rangers.)
-
Nest – When you pass over a nest, collect one Egg. When you land on a nest by exact count, collect as many Eggs as you have Rangers in your SUV.
-
STOP! – Stop here, no matter what you've spun. Your turn is over. On your next turn, before spinning, choose the direction that you wish to travel.
Note on the bonus-Egg figures: the eggs on the leaflet's escape panel are printed as icons with numbers (1st shows a 5, 2nd shows three eggs marked 1 each, 3rd shows one egg marked 1, 4th shows 0). These values are read from those icons.
Storm Tracker
The Storm Tracker runs down the side of the gameboard from the dinosaur icon at the start to the GAME OVER space at the end. Each space shows the consequence for a player caught in the dinosaur's colour zone, as printed: an egg with a number (-1, -2 or -3) for Eggs, or a Ranger figure with -1 for a Ranger peg. The final space reads GAME OVER.
Note: the Storm Tracker is printed as a vertical strip. The sequence of spaces and their values is read from the printed image; the leaflet gives no further written explanation of it.
