Is enemy Defense applied again when a separate ability hits the same enemy in one turn?

It depends on whether the damage is part of the engage. Damage from one engage has Defense subtracted once for the total. Class or other abilities used outside the engage are separate actions, so Defense is subtracted again for each of them.
