How does a spell card like Protective Aura or Protective Sphere convert symbols?

Its conversion belongs to the action on that same card: during that cast-a-spell action it turns the required Arcane symbols into successes, and it doesn't apply to other actions. You still need the symbols from your draws or other effects.
