12 tiles, each consisting of 4 land squares (2×4 farms), and 40 tree trunks.

Setup

  • Place one of the 4 tiles without a house in the center of the table. Place a tree trunk (the starting trunk) on this tile, between two land squares.
  • Randomly place the remaining 11 tiles to form a 3×4 rectangle (or another shape). The starting trunk must touch the edge of the formed terrain.
  • Place the remaining trunks next to the terrain.
  • Randomly determine who will occupy the white houses and who will occupy the black houses on the terrain.
  • Each player takes 4 houses of one color and places them on their 4 farms on the board.

Rules

  1. Players take turns placing a trunk next to the previous one; White starts by placing a trunk connected to the starting trunk.
  2. Trunks are placed between two land squares.
  3. If the last placed trunk has a free end (i.e., not connected to another trunk or to the edge of the terrain), the other player must place a trunk starting from that free end.
  4. If the last placed trunk does not have a free end, a territory has been fully enclosed, and the same player starts a new territory by placing another trunk (no change of turn!).
  5. The first trunk of a new territory must be connected to a previously placed trunk; it cannot be placed adjacent to a square with an opponent's farm, unless there is no other option.
  6. Don't waste land! It is forbidden to create a territory that contains no farm. Every placed trunk must still allow the creation of different territories!

End of the Game

When all players' farms are separated, count the total number of squares in the territories around your farms.

"Territories" Without Luck

Set up the terrain as above (including the starting trunk). White first places one of their farms on one of the 8 indicated spots; Black then chooses two of the 7 remaining spots, then White two more, then Black two more. White takes the last free spot and starts the game by placing a trunk.
