Setup
Shuffle the Trade Routes deck. Deal out one trade route card face up to each board corner not containing the achievements (for a total of three Trade Routes). Also, place a Trade Research token "Flip onto Medicine" side up on space 2 (Mathematics) of the Science track for each player.
Shuffle the new Tapestry cards, new Techs, and new Civilizations into their respective decks. Add the new Territory tiles to the bag or stack to draw.
There is a new resource: cargo. Cargo are represented as a cargo crate. You may take one when you get a resource and may spend them when you can spend a resource. Each player should take their cargo marker and place it on their resource track at 0.
During the Game
At the start of each of your income turns, including the first, draw a trade route card and add it to one of the piles of cards on the corner of the board. Stack it on the top, leaving it so that its resource cost and all the benefits of all cards are showing.
Example (designer's caption): The Upgrade a Tech card is stacked on the Score Tapestry Cards card. The cost of the trade route changes to a cargo and a money. The Advance on Science without Benefit card is stacked on top of the trade route. Its cost changes again to a cargo and a worker.
On your turn, instead of taking an income or advancement turn, you may take a trade turn. Claim a Trade Route. Choose a trade route card pile, pay the resource cost shown on the top card and then get the benefits for all the cards, taken in whatever order you choose. Discard the trade route cards when you are done and then draw a new trade route card for that slot.
If you reach space 2 (Mathematics) of the Science track, activate your Trade Research Token when taking the track's benefit. If you don't take the benefit of the space, do not activate your Trade Research Token. When activated, gain 1 cargo, then flip the token over and place it on space 4 (Medicine).
When you activate space 4 (Medicine) of the Science track, place your Trade Research Token on your player mat to remind you that you now get a cargo during your income turn as part of income.
Reshuffle the Trade Route discard if it runs out and form a new deck.
The new tapestry cards have a cargo symbol in a circle to indicate they require Trade Routes to be used. If you are not playing with Trade Routes these tapestry cards may be discarded when drawn to draw a new card.
Note: Some trade route cards have symbols used in the first and second expansions. If not using those expansions, discard the trade route card when it is drawn and draw a new card. All new cards and tiles from this fan expansion have the Cargo symbol on them. If not playing with Trade Routes and you draw one, discard it and draw a new card or tile.

If you see an icon you don't recognize and it isn't on the list below, check pages 16-17 of the comprehensive rulebook found here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f2tekc23yvb27w3/AAB0WJlI2BxM5liUeHM5_TBIa/Tapestry/Fantasies%20%26%20Futures?dl=0&preview=FF_Rulebook_r10-1.pdf&subfolder_nav_tracking=1
Era 4+ Civilization card icon: Draw a new Civilization. If it is prior to Era 4, place it face down and keep it inactive (you may look at it at any time). At the start of your 4th income turn, before anything else, turn the Civilization face up and put it into play. Any "when you gain this civ" effects happen at this time.
If you gain the Civ during or after Era 4, gain it as normal.
If the Civ tells you to discard it and draw a new one, then you may do it when you draw the Civ instead of waiting until your 4th income turn. We suggest placing a player marker on the space for your 4th era Tapestry card to remind you.
Envelope with red plus icon: Duplicate the benefit one of the other cards in this Trade Route. Treat this card as a separate instance of the duplicated card.
Guild Hall icon: Gain the Guild Hall landmark.
Blue card icon: Shuffle the unused Landmark cards and gain the top card of the deck. If there are no Landmark cards remaining, then discard this Trade Route card and draw a new one.
Laurel wreath with four-colour wheel icon: Score one point for each resource you currently have available to spend (after paying for the Trade Route).
Cargo crate icon: Cargo resource.
Envelope with X icon: Claim a Trade Route without spending resources. Draw a new Trade Route card to replace the claimed route.
