Overview

The Spirit Board is an add-on to Tajemnicze Domostwo. Thanks to it, the Ghost gains the ability to add a comment to the Dream card handed to an Investigator.

When to Use the Spirit Board

The add-on makes the game somewhat simpler. For this reason it is recommended only for games that use 8 or more Item, Location and Character cards (i.e., a 3-player game on very hard difficulty, a 4-player game on hard difficulty, etc. — see page 3 of the rulebook).

Number of Hints

At the start of the game, the players should decide how far the Ghost will use the Spirit Board:

  • Unlimited — the Ghost may use a hint every time they hand an Investigator a Dream card.
  • No more than twice in each Dream/Investigation phase.
  • At most once in each Dream/Investigation phase.
  • Three times per game, in any Dream/Investigation phases.

The Ghost cannot use a hint during the Common Dream phase at the Revelation stage of the true culprit.

How to Give Hints

When handing over a Dream card, or during the Investigation phase, the Ghost places an Investigator's pawn on the name of the chosen hint on the Ghost's Spirit Board, so that all Investigators can see it.

One Investigator may receive at most one hint per turn. The Ghost may give the same hint to more than one Investigator.

Hints

Each hint has a name, an instruction printed on the hint card, and a comment explaining when it is useful.

Wailing (Zawodzenie)

  • Instruction: Don't listen to those who are prompting you.
  • Comment: The hint draws attention to the fact that the Investigator's guesses are correct, while the other Investigators who are prompting them are wrong. At the same time, the hint in no way suggests which of the Investigator's guesses is the most accurate one.

Smashed Plates (Potrzaskane talerze)

  • Instruction: Look somewhere else entirely.
  • Comment: Useful when the Investigator is focused on an aspect of the Dream card other than the one the Ghost meant (for example, they go by the card's general colour scheme instead of looking for associations with its details).

Stench (Fetor)

  • Instruction: Take the hint indirectly.
  • Comment: Useful when the Ghost is not following obvious associations, but ones leading elsewhere, for example towards pop culture, shared memories of the Ghost and the Investigator, etc.

Thud (Tąpnięcie)

  • Instruction: Ignore the simplest solution.
  • Comment: The hint serves to keep the Investigator from following an obvious association. It is especially good when a Dream card clearly associates with one wrong Item, Location or Character.

Vision in the Mirror (Wizja w lustrze)

  • Instruction: Go back to an earlier guess.
  • Comment: A way to interrupt an Investigator who, with each successive guess, moves further away from the most accurate solution already spoken.
