Components
- Superhero cards, 12 of each type: leaf, water, wind, fire, chainsaw (5 types, 60 cards in total)
- Joker cards, 12 (the Joker is an American superhero)
- Explosion cards: 5 small explosion, 5 large explosion
- Mutant eagle cards: 5 with one eagle, 5 with two eagles
- Giant spider cards, 6
- 5 city boards (Berlin, London, New York, Tokyo, Warsaw)
Goal of the Game
The goal of the game is to save your city from an invasion of giant spiders. The only way to save the city is to gather five different superheroes in it. An attack by giant spiders can be repelled only when the superheroes join their forces. The first player to gather a full set of superheroes wins.
Setup
- Each player receives one city board.
- Shuffle all the cards thoroughly and place them face down in the middle of the table as a draw pile.
- Each player receives 2 cards from the top of the draw pile.
- Next to the draw pile, leave space for a discard pile, made up of the cards that have been used during play.
Setup for 3 players: each player has a city board in front of them (labelled A on the diagram). Each player's two starting cards are labelled C. The draw pile is labelled B and the discard pile is labelled D. The city boards are marked with 5 spaces for cards.
Gameplay
During the game, players place cards on city boards, both their own and their opponents'. Each city board can hold at most 5 cards. Cards are placed face up so that all players can see them.
The starting player is the player who most recently saved the world from doom (or the youngest player). They choose one of the two cards in their hand.
- If it is a superhero card or a giant spider card, they place it on their own city or on another player's city.
- If it is an explosion card or a mutant eagle card, they carry out the action described on that card, and then place it on the discard pile.
After playing a card, the player draws a new card from the draw pile so that they always have two cards in hand.
Some cards lying on the cities will be covered by other cards, or removed from the cities as a result of other cards' actions. Each time a card is covered or removed, it must be placed on the discard pile.
Placing Superhero Cards
Superhero cards may be placed:
- on empty spaces in cities,
- on the cards of other superheroes whose symbols appear on the card being placed.
Superhero cards cannot be placed on giant spiders.
Example: A player draws a card showing a superheroine wielding water. The player may place it:
- on an empty space in their city or in another player's city,
- on a superhero card wielding fire that is in their city or in another player's city (the covered card is placed on the discard pile),
- on a superhero card with a chainsaw that is in their city or in another player's city (the covered card is placed on the discard pile).
Note! Because it is widely known that American superheroes have saved the world from doom many times, the Joker card, the American superhero, is special. It may be placed:
- on empty spaces in cities,
- on all superhero cards,
- on giant spider cards.
Placing Giant Spider Cards
Giant spider cards may be placed:
- on empty spaces in cities,
- on superhero cards (the rule's icons show the five element symbols: fire, chainsaw, leaf, water and wind).
Giant spider cards cannot be placed on Jokers!
Explosion Cards
After playing explosion cards, the player carries out the action printed on them, then places the cards on the discard pile.
- Small explosion card: allows removing any one card from any city.
- Large explosion card: allows removing two any cards that are in one or two any cities.
Mutant Eagle Cards
After playing mutant eagle cards, the player carries out the action printed on them and places them on the discard pile.
- Card with one eagle: allows moving any card from one any city to another any city.
- Card with two eagles: allows swapping places of two any cards located in two different cities.
Turn Order
On their turn, a player must play one card from their hand, even if the result of that action is unfavourable for them. If a player cannot play a card, both cards held in their hand are placed on the discard pile and their turn ends. At the start of their next turn, that player draws two new cards from the draw pile.
The game proceeds clockwise. After the first player plays a card, the next player's turn begins. That player plays one of the two cards in their hand.
End of the Game
The game ends when one of the players gathers 5 different superheroes in their city.
Note! The Joker can replace any other superhero.
Two examples of the end of the game:
- a) A player has gathered 5 different superheroes in their city.
- b) A player has gathered 3 different superheroes in their city, and replaced the two missing superheroes with Jokers.
Points Variant
In this variant, you record points from several games. After a set number of games has been played, you add up the points scored and the player with the highest total wins.
Points are scored at the end of each game for the cards held in your cities:
- first superhero card of a given type (element) = 10 points
- each subsequent superhero card of that type = 5 points
- each American superhero card (Joker) = 20 points
- each giant spider card = −20 points
Example: Zosia has the following cards in her city:
- superhero (fire) = 10 points
- superhero (fire) = 5 points
- superhero (chainsaw) = 10 points
- American superhero (Joker) = 20 points
- giant spider = −20 points
Zosia scored 25 points in this game.
If a player's score in a given game is negative, record 0 points for that player for that game.
